From February 2019, trucks meeting Euro VI emissions standards will be eligible for a 10 per cent reduction in the cost of the Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) levy. Changes to the levy mean that, from February 2019, Euro 0-V compliant trucks will have to pay a £1200 levy rate. Euro VI trucks however, will pay just £900. The current rate is £1000.

Sale agreement or receivership – according to creditors, 30 March remains the deadline for Kumho Tire. Yonhap News Agency writes that Lee Dong-gull, chairman and chief executive officer of the Korea Development Bank, has ruled out an extension to this deadline. This means that should its labour union not agree to Qingdao Doublestar Tire’s purchase of a 45 per cent share in the company, from Monday 2 April Kumho Tire will be bankrupt and placed under court receivership.

BKT launches Xtractor 2018 website
A tractor isn’t the first vehicle that springs to mind when planning a 4,000-mile odyssey through South Africa that passes through national parks, along gold mines and over plateau, however this is the transport of choice for the 16-strong team taking part in Xtractor 2018. Early next week, four McCormick tractors will depart Cape Town on this 49-day on- and off-road journey, riding on the Agrimax Force and Agrimax RT 657 rubber provided by Xtractor tyre partner BKT. The off-road tyre specialist has created a mini-website where all interested parties can follow the team’s progress; regular updates and real time news from Xtractor 2018 can be found at Xtractor.bkt-tires.com.

From 29 May to 1 June 2018 the tyre industry meets for the first Tire Cologne. The US Tire Retread Information Bureau (TRIB) will also be in attendance. Indeed, David Stevens, TRIB’s managing director, is giving a presentation entitled “Overview of the US retreading market and improvements in plant efficiency” as part of the Global Retreading Conference that is running alongside Tire Cologne. The Global Retreading Conference has been organised by the BIPAVER European retreading association.
