Urban planners anticipate a decline in individual car ownership and commensurate increase in use of infrastructure-type vehicles to move people and goods in years to come, and Yokohama Rubber is now planning for this in its newly-announced medium-term management plan, Yokohama Transformation 2023. The company intends this successor to the 2018-launched Grand Design 2020 (GD2020) three-year plan to “serve as the platform” for its growth over the next three years.
Yokohama Rubber has long been one of the most significant firms within the tyre industry to exhibit at the Geneva International Motor Show. Although this year’s event was cancelled, the tyre maker has proceeded with the virtual launch of no less than five products destined for European markets. The new additions to the Yokohama range are the BluEarth-GT AE51, BluEarth-XT AE61 and Geolandar CV G058, as well as the BluEarth Winter V906 and IceGuard Studless IG53 winter patterns.
Yokohama’s Geolandar M/T G003 tyres for SUVs and pickup trucks will be fitted to the Korando DKR driven by Oscar Fuertes Aldanondo and Diego Vallejo for Ssangyong Motorsport/Sodicars Racing on the 2020 Dakar Rally (5-17 January). The same car and drivers came in third in the T1.3 petrol 2-wheel drive class in the January 2019 event, and will take on competition in the same class this year.
The Yokohama Geolandar X-MT, a chunky-treaded tyre already seeing action on SUVs and pick-ups in North America, is poised for release in Europe. Starting spring 2019, the Geolandar X-MT will be available here in six sizes.
Yokohama’s extensive offering of 4×4 tyres caters for a broad range of manufacturers and applications, from SUVs to crossover SUVs and minivans, CUVs and sports cars, already boasting a host of OE fitments.
Yokohama Rubber is supporting the team led by Ikuo Hanawa in Asia’s largest cross-country rally, which begins 12 August. The company’s support for Hanawa’s team in the Asia Cross Country Rally 2018 (AXCR) includes supplying Geolandar M/T G003 tyres.
Yokohama will return to Automechanika Birmingham (6-8 June, Birmingham NEC) for the show’s second year in the UK with three products new to the country. The new patterns, launched in Yokohama’s centenary year, provide new options for the high performance road, SUV, and track day tyre markets. “We’re delighted to be back at Automechanika this year and we have some very exciting new products to present to the UK market,” comments David Seward, managing director of Yokohama HPT.
Yokohama will launch three new high performance tyres for motorsport, road and off-road applications at Autosport International next week. The NEC, Birmingham show is also an important one for the company not only as Europe’s largest indoor pre-season motorsport event, but as the start of its centenary year celebrations. The road-legal race tyre, Advan A052 will make its UK debut; Yokohama’s new tyre for sports, tuned and performance car drivers, Advan Fleva V701 will also be on display; and finally the new Geolandar A/T G015 for SUV and high performance off-road vehicles will also be revealed.
While Yokohama’s flagship Advan brand provides high performance for on-road SUVs, such as the AMG version of the Mercedes-Benz M-Class and Audi Q7, for which it is the original equipment fitment, its Geolandar range also has models to suit the off-road adventurer.
Yokohama has announced plans to launch a new 4X4/SUV tyre – called the Geolandar H/T G056 – in Europe this summer. The new tyre features an orange oil-based compound which reportedly improves wet grip and shortens wet braking distance something that is clearly significant for European weather conditions.
Yokohama has announced the upcoming launch of its newest generation of winter tyres in the UK. The W.drive V905 is being introduced this year in a range of 15-17” sizes, and the UK distributor, Yokohama HPT, is expecting to take delivery of the first available sizes ready for the start of the 2014/15 winter season.
