ETRMA promotes Mathioudaki to Director, Product Stewardship & Sustainability

The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has announced the promotion of Stella Mathioudaki to Director, Product Stewardship & Sustainability. In her expanded role, Mathioudaki will oversee the industry’s efforts on responsible material use and regulatory compliance, while also leading key initiatives on tyre sustainability, including recycling, retreading, and the broader circular economy transition.

China’s aviation body certifies Guilin Lanyu tyres for C919

On 18 April, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) issued Guilin Lanyu Aviation Tyre Co., Ltd. official certification for its large aircraft radial tyres. With this China Technical Standard Order Authorisation (CTSOA), the Sinochem subsidiary gains approval to supply both main and nose landing gear tyres to the Comac C919 narrow body airliner.

Porsche selects Pirelli for 911 GTS

Pirelli has extended its original equipment remit for the Porsche 911 range with supply to the very first hybrid-powered variant, the Porsche 911 GTS. The Italian tyre brand has developed a bespoke version of the P Zero R for this latest model, a tyre that “balances sportiness with everyday usability.” It has also created a winter tyre option, the P Zero Winter 2.

Mull to head US waste tyre association

The Tire Recycling Foundation (TRF) has appointed Stephanie Mull as its executive director. Mull will lead the USA-based organisation’s efforts to drive innovation and invest in the circular tyre economy, grow end-of-life tyre markets, and support research to address gaps in the tyre recycling supply chain and sustainability.

Continental supporting Ogmore River ELT recovery programme

Starting Monday 5 May, environmental charity A Peace for Nature is heading the Ogmore River Clean Project, a large-scale community led initiative to remove thousands of end-of-life tyres from Ogmore River and Estuary in South Wales. The five-day clean up aims to protect aquatic habitats and wildlife and preserve the natural landscape for future generations. Continental Tyres has pledged its support for the project.

Trelleborg Tires continues the ProgressiveTractionisation of its agricultural tyre portfolio with the launch of the Trelleborg TM900 ProgressiveTraction, a solution it specifically developed for high-horsepower tractor applications. Continental closing one of its Malaysia tyre plants

Continental will discontinue tyre manufacturing operations at its plant in Alor Setar, Malaysia by the end of 2025. Approximately 950 people work at the Alor Setar site, and the company says its priority is to “support its employees by providing assistance and support such as career counselling as well as exploring potential employment opportunities inside and outside of Continental.”

Titan International expands Goodyear licensing rights into new segments

Titan International has gained further production rights for the Goodyear brand, and as such is expanding its activities across the light construction/industrial, ATV, lawn and garden, and golf tyres segments. Additionally, Titan has renewed its Goodyear Farm Tires licensing rights in the agricultural tyre segment.

Kumho Tire reports record Q1 2025 result

Kumho Tire has announced its preliminary performance for the first quarter of 2025 with consolidated sales of KRW 1.2062 trillion (£633.3 million / €745.1 million) and operating profit of KRW 144.8 billion (£76.0 million / €89.4 million). First – quarter sales grew 15.5 per cent year-on-year, with Kumho calling this the best performance in the company’s history. Driving this sales growth was an expansion of original equipment tyre supply and the combined growth of replacement market tyres, including high-margin products.

Protyre shares that its Colchester Centre has gained the title of Pirelli Performance Centre (PPC) of the Year 2024/25. Nexen Tire achieves sales record in Q1 2025

Nexen Tire has released its first quarter 2025 financial results, and these show record revenues of KRW 771.2 billion (£400.02 million / €470.43 million) and an operating profit of KRW 40.7 billion (£21.16 million / €24.83 million). This reflects a 13.7 per cent year-on-year increase in revenue, which the tyre maker points out is the company’s highest-ever quarterly performance and a result that exceeds market forecasts.
