Apollo will introduce its full range of industrial tyres to end users and tyre specialists in Europe with a six-month tour of the continent. Apollo Vredestein specialists will visit eight countries to introduce Apollo branded industrial tyres to as many users and dealers as possible. The company will use a specially designed Volkswagen Crafter, with dual Manchester United branding, to display almost all types, sizes and profiles of tyre during the promotional tour.
In addition to appearances from football freestylers Christopher Noel and Colin Nell and giving away more than 16,000 free footballs, during last month’s Agritechnica show off-road tyre specialist BKT presented two new ranges – the Constar and Star Trac. Both products are scheduled for market release before the end of 2013.
Trelleborg has launched the TH400 Trelleborg Agro Industrial radial range of tyres for telescopic handlers, backhoes and mini loaders in North America. According to the company, the range’s advanced radial casing and reinforced structure ensures maximum stability even when booms are fully extended.
Michelin has shared news of customer praise for its Power CL tyres. It says Market Harborough-based plant hire company Harborough Hire Centre (HHC) held a comparative test between the Power CL and a rival ‘major’ brand, fitting the two manufacturers’ tyres to selected machines within its fleet of 42 JCB and Manitou telescopic handlers, and 47 Thwaites and Terex dumpers.

Nottinghamshire’s Midland Skip Hire has appointed ATS Euromaster to supply, fit and service tyres across its 62-strong fleet. ATS-E will provide monthly fleet inspections and rapid-response breakdown assistance across the waste disposal and skip hire company’s 37 trucks, eight trailers and five vans. The on-road fleet, plus 12 telescopic handlers used onsite for waste transfer, will be supported by the nationwide tyre specialist’s mobile service fleet – the UK’s largest at 1,000 vehicles.
Providing an update on one of its customers, multi-product hire specialist Hewden, ATS Euromaster says a change in tyre policy has helped it quadruple average tyre lifespan. Hewden’s Grangemouth-based fleet of 16 JCB rough-terrain forklifts were moved to a Michelin Power CL policy in July 2009 on ATS Euromaster’s advice, and since that time only six of the more than 60 tyres purchased have needed replacement – all due to wear rather than damage, ATS Euromaster points out. This has taken the fleet’s average tyre lifespan from five months to approximately 20 while reducing repair costs.
Following extensive development testing at its world headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire, machinery manufacturer JCB has chosen Michelin’s Power CL as an original equipment fitment on its latest 2CX, 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. The selection of the Power CL is in addition to the Michelin XMCL which is already the OE radial option.
Most of us have cursed at one time or another when caught behind a slow-moving digger, travelling on the road. Well, there’s one JCB that will easily leave you standing, as the JCB Dieselmax recently achieved a stunning 350mph (563kph) at the Bonneville Salt Flats to break its own land speed record for diesel-powered cars.
The JCB Dieselmax became the world’s fastest diesel-powered car on Tuesday, as Andy Green set a new FIA international record of 328.767 mph (526.027 kph) on the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah. He beat the existing record by almost 100 mph. The JCB team will make a further attempt to raise the record today.
Michelin recently launched the XMCL, a tyre designed for compact construction machinery such as backhoes, compact loaders, and telescopic handlers used in farming applications. According to the manufacturer, the XMCL offers two fundamental advantages over its predecessor (the XM27) it lasts up to 46 per cent longer, and its crown and sidewalls are up to 10 per cent more resistant to punctures. Among the features that make the new tyre tougher are deeper lugs, steel casing belts and protective sidewall ribs.
