Land purchase secures future Nokian Tyres growth in Finland

Nokian Tyres is “preparing for the future” by purchasing three hectares of land near its factory in Nokia, Finland – but it says this site won’t be home to its planned European manufacturing facility. The tyre maker says the property’s location in the immediate vicinity of its factory and headquarters “enables synergies in future development projects.”

Nokian moving to 24/7 production in Finland

Round the clock, seven days a week production will soon be reality at the Nokian Tyres plant in Nokia, Finland. The tyre maker says the change to this format should “significantly” increase production capacity for passenger car tyres. Nokian is creating approximately 80 new jobs at the factory to accommodate this higher capacity.

Daimler loses ruling in German patent dispute with Nokia

Nokia Oyj has won a court ruling in a patent dispute with Daimler, giving the Finnish company leverage in a long-running fight over mobile technology in vehicles. Daimler, owner of the Mercedes-Benz brand, violated Nokia’s mobile-technology patents, judges in Mannheim, Germany, said on Tuesday. The ruling goes to the heart of how technology must be licensed for mobile-telecommunication systems that are standard features in most modern cars.

Nokian-equipped Valtra ploughs snow at 73.171 km/h

Nokian Tyres and Valtra have set the world record for snow removal with an autonomous tractor. The speed record was set in March 2018 using an unmanned Valtra T254 Versu tractor equipped with Nokian Hakkapeliitta TRI tyres. Operated without a driver, the tractor ploughed snow on a closed road in Southern Finland at 73.171 km/h (45.466 mph).

Nokian Tyres adds VP strategy to management team

Timo Tervolin has been appointed as vice president, strategy and corporate development and a member of Nokian Tyres’ management team. According to the company, his responsibilities will include leading Nokian’s strategy process and strategic programmes, mergers and acquisitions, and monitoring markets and competition.
