Avanade and Microsoft collaborate on Automotive, Fleet and OEM cybersecurity

Bridgestone, Continental and any other tyremakers that suffered cyber-attacks during the last year or so may be interested to learn that, on 4 January 2023, Avanade announced the expansion of its 22-year relationship with Microsoft to help the automotive industry and OEMs protect against increasing cybersecurity threats using Microsoft Azure and Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity tools and capabilities.

Continental repels cyberattack

German tyre maker and automotive systems supplier Continental reports that it has “averted” a cyberattack on company IT systems. Continental says attackers “infiltrated parts” of its IT systems earlier this month but managed to avert the attack after detecting it. According to media reports, the attackers neither encrypted data nor demanded a ransom.

Bridgestone IT incident an “untargeted ransomware attack”

Following an investigation performed by Bridgestone Americas and third-party security advisors, Bridgestone Corporation understands that the “IT security incident” that Bridgestone Americas experienced on 27 February was the result of an “untargeted ransomware attack.”

The cyberattack on Bridgestone Americas resulted in the perpetrators gaining access to “a limited number of Bridgestone systems and threatening to make this information public.” However, the Bridgestone Americas statement released in answer to Tyres & Accessories questions on 15 March also explained that the company is: “…working around the clock with external security advisors, Accenture Security, to investigate and understand the full scope and nature of the incident.”
