Motor Wheel Service Distribution (MWSD) has launched the Xlite ET45, a forged aluminium wheel designed specifically for three-axle, multi-functional, inloader semi-trailers. Available in size 11.75" x 22.5", weighing 24.4kg and with a load capacity of 5,000kg, MWSD says the 10-stud wheel has been designed for glass transportation companies throughout Europe across both OE and replacement markets. The Xlite ET45 is available in a machined finish.

However the company remains sceptical of the report’s findings and industry awareness of the issue. Available to original equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket, the service covers MWSD’s complete range of Chevron marked steel wheels, designed to promote future traceability, and the company’s exclusive xlite forged aluminium wheels. This latest partnership follows an agreement with Goodyear Dunlop CV support network, TruckForce, in which MWSD became its preferred commercial wheel supplier. Motor Wheel Service Distribution’s (MWSD) commercial vehicle wheel safety campaign has been successfully incorporated in the new European Union (EU) Roadworthiness Package, which will become law in May 2014. The new law, adopted by both the European Parliament and European Council, states: “compatibility between parts and components, such as between wheels and wheel hubs, should be treated as a critical safety item and should be checked during roadworthiness testing.”

Maker of forged aluminium xlite wheels, Wheels India (WIL) has made a “multi-million pound” investment in its manufacturing facility. WIL said the investment has helped it set up a “state-of-the-art facility to meet increased demand for xlite forged aluminium wheels.” The manufacturer said that it will launch the next generation of its Xbrite wheel finish in the spring.

Wheel company Ronal reports that n October 2011 it signed a Memorandum of Understanding that integrates Taiwanese company FullChamp technologies Co. Ltd into the Ronal Group. FullChamp, which was founded in 2002, was already a Ronal production partner; the firm manufactures Ronal’s ‘Speedline Truck’ line of commercial vehicle wheels, a range developed by the Swiss company’s Italy-based subsidiary Speedline Truck S.r.l.

Alcoa Integrates Wheels into Transport Products Unit

Alcoa has taken the decision to merge its "Wheel Products" and "Auto and Truck" division into a new "Wheel and Transportation Products” business unit. Kevin B. Kramer (48), who left Goodyear for Alcoa four years ago, will be president of the new business unit, headquartered in Cleveland. Alcoa Wheel and Transportation Products employs 2,800 people in 30 locations. "Wheel and Transportation Products" is divided into three sub-areas Transportation Products (formerly Car and Truck Structure), commercial vehicle wheels and passenger car wheels. In the accompanying press release is of cast aluminium wheels (Alcoa still produces at two locations) is no longer the wheels, but of forged aluminium wheels. Transportation Products will now be led by Scott Kerns, formerly in charge of marketing at Alcoa Wheels. Vice President and General Manager Tim Myers (42) will continue to lead the commercial vehicle wheel division, and Michael Parnell will continue to run the auto wheel division.

Alcoa Strike Not Affecting Production

The strike at Alcoa’s US wheel manufacturing plant in Cleveland is not affecting production levels, according to a company report. Since negotiations between Alcoa and the United Autoworkers Union (UAW) broke down on November 6, salaried employees from the Cleveland plant and from other Alcoa facilities began operating the Cleveland works. Alcoa reports that normal production levels of commercial vehicle wheels and forged specialty wheels resumed after only a short time, and at present the company is enjoying record commercial vehicle wheel production levels. Union employees at the Cleveland plant have been striking over issues related to health care, absenteeism, wages, and pensions.

Gizmo Aids Commercial Tyre Fitters

MWS Aftermarket Division has developed an easy to use calculator, nicknamed "the Gizmo" to help UK tyre fitters identify commercial vehicle wheels and what they need to order to ensure correct fitting from the thousands of different types of wheel available. The 16cm diameter disc allows users to dial in the tyre specification and type of mounting or construction, then simply read off the wheel type. The Gizmo identifies the 27 most popular commercial vehicle steel wheel types and tyre sizes, including their fitting and centring systems.
