2017 NTDA dinner and conference moves to MK Dons stadium

The 2017 NTDA Annual Dinner, Tyre Industry Award Ceremony and one day Tyre Industry Conference will be held in a new venue the next time it runs on Thursday 12 October 2017. The new location will be at the Double Tree by Hilton in Milton Keynes – part of the same site as the modern MK Dons football stadium. The same location also host the Tyre Wholesalers AGM and Lunch on 11 October 2017.

NTDA supports sidewall drilling

The National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) has endorsed sidewall drilling in a bid to re move end of life tyres from the retail supply chain. Following its executive council meeting on 9 November 2016, the NTDA stated:

NTDA honours ‘legend’ Sir Tom Farmer with chairman’s award

As well as the popular Tyre Industry Awards, the NTDA also presented special awards to three individuals that have gone the extra mile in their service of the tyre industry over the years during the annual dinner at the start of October. The association honoured Kwik-Fit founder and well-known philanthropist Sir Tom Farmer with the national chairman’s award for outstanding contribution to the tyre industry as well as an honorary life membership of the association. In addition Brian Funnell and Lennie Wells become honorary life members (see "Brian Funnell and Lennie Wells become NTDA honorary life members").

NTDA reaffirms support for 3mm campaign

The NTDA reports that it remains “firmly committed to its 3mm Tread Safety campaign, an initiative designed to raise awareness among motorists of the importance of changing tyres when they reach a 3mm tread depth rather than the lower, legal limit of 1.6mm, which was launched in partnership with Roadsafe in 2005.” The NTDA statement follows comments made by well-known manufacturer Michelin at the end of September in opposition to 3mm tread depth tyre change philosophies.

Total UK ban: NTDA chief executive hardens stance on part-worn tyres

Following up comments made at the Tyre Wholesale Group’s annual lunch on 5 October, NTDA chief executive Stefan Hay has called for a total ban on the sale of part-worn tyres. Speaking at the association’s Tyre Industry Conference, held at the VOX Conference Centre on Thursday 6 October 2016, Hay said previous attempts to enforce current laws through collaboration with trade bodies and enforcement agencies have not yielded the required results, leaving the association with little option but to harden its stance. Later the same day, NTDA chairman Roger Griggs reiterated the message during the association’s annual dinner.

NTDA names Tyre Industry Awards 2016 finalists

24 hours after nominations closed on 2 August, the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) has published the list of finalists for the 2016 NTDA Tyre Industry Awards. According to the association, over the last three months the NTDA has been “inundated” with submissions. As a result a total of 57 entries across the eight award categories have now made it to the final.

The closing date for entries to the 2016 NTDA Tyre Industry Awards is 2 August. Last year’s awards saw 55 finalists battle it out and there are no indication’s this competition will be any less competitive.

At its 87th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Wednesday 11 May 2016, the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) executive council elected Autogem managing director Prashant Chopra as vice chairman of the association.

Suzi Perry hosting NTDA Tyre Industry Awards 2016

The NTDA has announced that Suzi Perry is to be the host of the 2016 Tyre Industry Awards. Suzi Perry is a popular and well-known television presenter, currently covering MotoGP for BT Sport. She is also known for covering MotoGP for the BBC for 13 years, The Gadget Show on Channel 5 for 9 years and the BBC’s Formula One coverage from 2013 to 2015.
