NTDA conference opens with launch of manifesto for change

The 2017 NTDA conference kicked off this morning, with around 200 tyre executives gathering in Milton Keynes for sessions on subjects covering people, technology and looking after business. The initial headline was the publication of the association's “manifesto for change”. This 44-page document details the association's plans for making significant change in the market.

Over 2000 people sign NTDA part-worn ban petition

At the start of August the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) started an online petition calling for a complete ban on the sale of part-worn tyres. The move follows inspections carried out over several years into the sale of part-worn tyres, which show serious safety breaches are common.

Continental Tyres has announced that it is sponsoring the NTDA Annual Dinner on Thursday 12 October 2017 at the Double Tree by Hilton, Milton Keynes.

Hosted for the 88th time, the NTDA Annual Dinner is seen as the leading social event in the tyre industry, during which the association will be recognising the achievements of some of the UK tyre industry’s key stakeholders.

NTDA Golf Day results

On Thursday 1 June, more than 50 players from NTDA member companies, and their guests, gathered at the Mere Golf and Country Club to participate in the Tyre Industry Golf Day, which provided them with an opportunity to both meet up with old friends and make new ones.

Trelleborg joins NTDA

Trelleborg Industrial and Construction Tyres has joined the NTDA both as a supplier member and as a full member under the UK network of centres in its ‘Interfit’ service division.

Trelleborg Industrial and Construction Tyres is a global manufacturer of premium quality tyres and has developed extensive product ranges to serve both solid and pneumatic tyre requirements within these sectors. The UK operation has two distinct channels with very different customer bases and varying requirements. A major part of the business is to supply and fit tyres through its Interfit service division, where the customer base predominantly consists of Forklift Truck manufacturers and their dealer networks. In addition, Trelleborg has developed a facility to supply tyres to the replacement market where the majority of customers in this channel are tyre dealers and distributors. Although the vast majority of products are fitted to Forklift trucks, it also supplies and fits tyres to ground support equipment such as airport vehicles, reach stackers and container handlers.

NTDA reiterates 3mm tread-depth call after 2nd Northern Ireland tyre survey

The NTDA’s regional meeting held in Templepatrick on 17 May reported the results of the associations 2017 tyre tread depth on replacement survey showed. It showed that in one week in March, members had removed 1,200 tyres from cars and light commercial vans that were already below the legal tread depth limit of 1.6mm. This follows on from a similar survey carried out over a longer period in 2016, where more than 3000 tyres removed were already under 1.6mm.

Autogem managing director new NTDA National chairman

On Wednesday 7 June, at its AGM held during Automechanika Birmingham 2017, the NTDA installed Prashant Chopra, managing director of Autogem Invicta Ltd as its new national chairman.

Prashant takes over from Roger Griggs communications director of European Tyre Enterprises Ltd, who has served for an extended period of three years in order to support the implementation and execution of the three-year strategic plan introduced by the association’s chief executive Stefan Hay in 2014.

Honorary Life Members organise new NTDA Tyre Industry Golf Day

A new golf event, to be known as the NTDA 2017 Tyre Industry Golf Day, and which is being organised by NTDA Honorary Life Members John Tarbox, Martin Rowlands and George Forbes, will take place at Mere Golf and Country Club, near Manchester, on Thursday 1 June 2017.

NTDA and Wheelwrights support WheelPower’s Inter Spinal Unit Games

On Tuesday 25 May 2017, NTDA national chairman Roger Griggs and chief executive Stefan Hay, who are both Liverymen of the Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights, joined fellow Liverymen and Wheelwrights Past Masters David Viner and David Wernick in presenting a Wheelwrights’ Charity cheque for £15,000 to WheelPower the British Wheelchair Sports charity at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium – the birthplace of the Paralympic Movement.
