Government guidelines support NTDA Tyre Industry Conference

The NTDA has welcomed the news that business events and conferences will be permitted to resume from 1 October 2020. Association chief executive Stefan Hay commented: “We really welcome this news which is a very positive move forward for the 2020 NTDA Tyre Industry Conference, Annual Dinner and Tyre Industry Awards which we are currently planning to run on Thursday 5 November at the VOX Conference Centre at Genting Resorts World, Birmingham NEC.

NTDA launches key worker card

In order to support members during these unusual times, the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) has developed a key worker identity card. According to the association, the NTDA was “inundated with members seeking advice and guidance on the status of their employees as key workers” during the full lockdown period.

Government consulting on ending MOT extension, NTDA calls for immediate car test restart

Following the news that the DVSA will restart heavy vehicle testing from 4 July 2020, Tyres & Accessories understands that the government Department for Transport (DfT) is consulting on ending the rolling MOT extension initiated at the start of lockdown in March 2020. While DVSA published a statement on 19 June 2020 relating to restarting HGV tests, DfT has not yet answered T&A’s car MOT-related questions on the subject.

However, when we approached the National Tyre Distributors Association for a tyre industry perspective on the reports, the NTDA gave is full support to proposals to end the current temporary car MOT extension currently being given to the expiry dates of MOT tests as they become due. Specifically, the NTDA called for government to “restart with immediate effect” the normal MOT process.

NTDA concerned about long-term impact of MOT exemption

The UK Government exemption on MOTs for six months from 30 March 2020, may have come as welcome news to many motorists, but the NTDA has also raised serious concerns about its impact on future vehicle roadworthiness. The fact that the emphasis has been placed on motorists to ensure their vehicles are kept in a roadworthy condition, further raises concerns. In short, the NTDA believes this general exemption will create long-term problems.

NTDA: Truck tyre technicians are key workers

Earlier we examined the evidence that truck tyre technicians should be considered key workers in “Are truck tyre technicians key workers?” In answer to the question, NTDA chief executive Stefan Hay suggested “those technicians who hold a REACT, LCTT or LRTT licence may wish to present the cards as evidence of their profession. Naturally, schools can confirm the validity of the licence by contacting the NTDA’s Head Office.”

First Stop joins NTDA

Bridgestone tyre retail network First Stop has announced that, as of 2020, First Stop UK has joined the NTDA in its own right. It is the first time First Stop UK has joined the NTDA. As a result of its membership, First Stop is including NTDA membership as part of its new value proposition.

Second successive NTDA training award for Bridgestone

Bridgestone has won the NTDA Tyre Industry Award for Staff Training & Development for the second successive year, and the third time in four years. Since scooping the award in 2018, Bridgestone has strengthened its training team, developed a number of courses for automotive retailers and has even entered into a partnership with Her Majesty’s Prison Service via an offender training scheme to upskill the commercial tyre industry.

Over 600 attend 90th NTDA annual dinner and Tyre Industry Awards

After a day conference focusing on investing in the tyre industry’s personnel, technology and the trends associated with the next generation, last night saw 600 members of the tyre industry gather at the ICC in Birmingham for the 90th annual NTDA dinner and Tyre Industry Awards.
