NTDA announces 2019 Tyre Industry Awards finalists

The NTDA has announced the finalists for its 2019 Tyre Industry Awards. The awards, sponsored by tyre manufacturer Sailun, will be presented at the association’s 90th Annual Dinner on Thursday 3 October at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Birmingham. The dinner is sponsored by tyre wholesaler Land Tyre Service, while the awards will be hosted by popular TV comedian Mark Watson. The 2019 finalists include former award winners, finalists, and some new nominees.

Jelf signs NTDA agreement

Well-known industry insurance company Jelf reports that it has designed specific insurance programmes for the tyre sector in collaboration with the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA). According to Jelf, the insurance market for the tyre industry is diminishing quickly with only a small number of motor trader insurers willing to write insurance policies.

Reverend Richard Coles to speak at NTDA Tyre Industry Conference 2019

The Reverend Richard Coles will be the closing speaker at the NTDA’s 2019 Tyre Industry Conference (3 October, International Convention Centre (ICC), Birmingham). The broadcaster, writer and Church of England priest is known for a variety of television appearances, including Have I Got News For You, and a memorable run on Strictly Come Dancing. He first found fame as one half of the 1980s band, The Communards, which enjoyed three UK Top 10 hits, including the biggest-selling single of 1986, Don’t Leave Me This Way.

Following its 5 December 2018 statement saying the association would take action against non-member misappropriation of the association’s name, the NTDA has indeed been taking action against a number of UK tyre retailers falsely claiming to be members of the association.

The NTDA is taking action against a number of UK tyre retailers who are falsely claiming to be members of the association, displaying the NTDA logo on their recovery vehicles, websites and marketing collateral, or who are advertising that repair work carried out at their tyre depots is carried out to “the NTDA standard”.

NTDA and TRA announce closer collaboration

During the NTDA Tyre Industry Conference held on 4 October 2018, NTDA chief executive Stefan Hay announced that the NTDA and the TRA are working to explore “the clear synergies between the two associations”. In the first instance, this will involve an exchange of representatives between the NTDA Executive Council and TRA Steering Group and the establishment of a joint Working Group to explore the possible benefits such an alliance can deliver.

NTDA opens Tyre Industry Conference 2018: forum ‘more important than ever’

National Tyre Distributors Association chief executive Stefan Hay and national chairman Prashant Chopra have opened the 2018 Tyre Industry Conference, stating that the annual forum is “more important than ever” given the current business climate. Chopra added that the current period of uncertainty pre-Brexit has seen an increase in numbers for the association’s membership, with core tyre retail businesses such as Morecambe’s Westgate Tyres alongside more tangentially related firms like Banner Batteries having joined the association in the past 12 months.

NTDA REACT achieves 5000th certificate milestone

The NTDA Roadside Emergency Action Concerning Technicians (REACT) scheme hit a new milestone on Tuesday 18 September when Commercial Tyre Technician Keiran Smith of Lodge Tyre Company in Stafford received the 5000th certificate and Licence to Work Safely at the Roadside at Lodge House, the company’s impressive corporate headquarters in Stafford.

Smith, who is from Worcester and works at Lodge Tyre’s Droitwich depot on Berryhill Industrial Estate, was trained by Roadside Safety Training UK Ltd one of the founding members of the REACT scheme.

2018 NTDA Tyre Industry Awards finalists named

The NTDA has announced the finalists for its 2018 Tyre Industry Awards. The awards will be presented at a ceremony sponsored by tyre manufacturer Sailun which will take place at the Association’s 89th Annual Dinner on 4 October at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Milton Keynes. The dinner sponsor this year is tyre wholesaler Land Tyre Services and the awards will be hosted by TV personality and sports presenter Mark Durden-Smith.

NTDA: EC anti-subsidy decision ‘no great surprise’

Following decisions on the part of the European Commission (EC) to review its Chinese truck tyre anti-dumping tariffs and to decide against implementing anti-subsidy remedies against Chinese-produced tyres for the time being, the industry itself has been responding to the news. For its part, the UK’s National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) was not shocked by the news that the EC is not planning to implement anti-subsidy (otherwise known as counter-veiling duties) and highlighted difficulties associated with their implementation.

NTDA Tyre Technician Licensing Scheme gathers momentum

The NTDA’s new Tyre Technician Professional Development Scheme, designed to raise professionalism within the tyre industry and improve technicians’ opportunities and career progression, is gathering momentum according to the association.

Officially launched at the Tyre Industry Conference in October last year, the NTDA Tyre Technician Professional Development Scheme is intended to act as a form of self-regulation for the tyre retail industry and will increase the flexibility of tyre technicians by providing them with a nationally-recognised licence designed to demonstrate their competency wherever they choose to work.
