Apollo Tyres buys Germany’s reifen.com

Apollo Tyres Ltd has announced its acquisition of tyre wholesaler and online retailer Reifen.com GmbH. The German company changed hands for €45.6 million and, according to Neeraj Kanwar, vice-chairman and managing director of Apollo Tyres, the purchase of Reifen.com represents a “strategic fit in further growing our European business.

New GT Radial Savero SUV targets growing compact, medium sized market

Giti Tire has launched its latest product, the GT Radial Savero SUV, which arrives in Europe to meet the growing demand in the SUV and CUV segments. The tyre was launched at an event in Barcelona, demonstrating the product’s suitability for fitment on a wide range of vehicles at the compact to medium end of the market.

Trelleborg launches ProgressiveTraction TM1060 60 series

Trelleborg will launch the latest tyre to feature its ProgressiveTraction technology at Agritechnica 2015, on 8-14 November in Hannover, Germany. The TM1060 upgrades Trelleborg’s high performance solution for new generations of tractors, ranging from 80 to over 300 HP. Trelleborg says the range will improve farming efficiency thanks to the double lug ProgressiveTraction tread, which boosts grip and significantly reduces vibrations. Operating on the soil at different times, the double lug progressively increases traction when required. The tyre also has a flexible carcass for homogenous deformation distribution and, absorbing road surface roughness, assures a smoother ride.

Cimcorp releases ‘Dream Factory’

Cimcorp, a manufacturer of robotic gantry-based order fulfilment and tyre-handling solutions, has broadened its Dream Factory solution to include the handling of raw materials and compounds. According to the company, the new product includes an optimized layout design that utilizes 50 per cent less floor space than conventional solutions, can be integrated with specialized software systems and generates cost savings of up to 50 per cent in materials handling capital investment by simplifying the material flow.

Conti to ‘significantly expand’ Contidrom

Continental AG’s tyre division is planning to “significantly expand” its Contidrom testing and development centre, north of Hannover. According to local press reports, the tyre manufacturer have already bought an adjacent 20-hectare area of forest. The expansion is said to focus on expanding wet handling test capacities which have been described as a “bottleneck” for the entire site. Nearly 11,000 tyre tests are currently conducted on-site.

Giti Tire makes 4 European R&D appointments

Giti Tire has made four appointments across its European R&D facilities, bringing the number of staff within its Hannover and Nuneaton (Mira) centres to 17. Giti stated that the appointments meet increasing demand for original equipment, product planning and field engineering projects.

Video: Trelleborg ‘hops’ to space with 3D animation

Trelleborg has launched the third episode in its series of 3D animated movies. Designed to appeal to Trelleborg’s agricultural tyre customers and the next generation of farming professionals, the short – titled ‘Space Hops’ – was created using sophisticated 3D animation techniques. In the latest instalment, Trelleborg’s animated cricket character is abducted and finds himself at Trelleborg’s Innovation Space Center. While on board, he assists in the development of the technological features of Trelleborg’s premium radial agricultural tyre. Vacu-Lug ramps up production to match Logistik tyre demand

Grantham, Lincolnshire-based Vacu-Lug reports that it has ramped up retread production in light of increased demand for its Logistik range of tyres. Vacu-Lug, launched its Logistik 295/80R22.5 commercial vehicle drive axle tyre in November 2014. In early 2015, the new Logistik Drive 315/70R22.5 followed and is reportedly already proving popular across the commercial vehicle sector. The demand is such that a second tyre press has recently been installed.

Delticom reports higher turnover, plans warehouse closure

Online tyre retailer Delticom reports that its revenues in the first half of this year rose 10.7 per cent year-on-year to €250.2 million. EBIDTA for the period between 1 January and 30 June was up 6.4 per cent to €6.6 million, although the EBITDA margin contracted from 2.7 to 2.6 per cent. EBIT decreased 32.3 per cent in the reporting period to € 1.4 million, while consolidated net income totaled €0.7 million, up from the €0.2 million net loss reported a year earlier. Earnings per share were €0.06.

Horni to head Continental’s MEA business development portfolio

Dieter Horni is stepping down as managing director of Continental Tyre South Africa (CTSA) after six years in this role, and will return to Continental’s head office in Hannover, Germany to head up the company’s Business Development portfolio for the Middle East and African region. Shaun Uys, who is currently head of marketing and sales for CTSA’s South Africa and Sub-Sahara replacement tyre business, will as of 1 August succeed Horni as managing director.

Vacu-Lug rolls out new Westlake Tyre range

Following its launch at the IAA Show in Hannover in October 2014, Vacu-Lug, the sole UK distributor for all Westlake truck and bus radial tyres, has launched the range in the UK.

According to the company, the Westlake range offers a choice of 17.5”, 19.5” and 22.5” rim diameters and consists of four applications: Long Haul, Regional, Mixed Service and Max Load.
