IAA launch for Z Tyre truck range

The Z tyre programme, first launched two years ago, has now been expanded to include commercial vehicle tyres. These products will debut at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hannover this week and are being marketed as an economical and reliable aftermarket alternative for the truck and bus market. The Z truck tyre range consists of 26 dimensions and includes regional and long-haul fitments in sizes ranging from 17.5 to 22.5 inch fitments.

Giti Tire launches Giti PCR brand in Germany, debut at Automechanika Frankfurt

Following up the European launch of Giti branded truck tyres at Reifen 2016, Giti Tire has now launched a new flagship Giti branded passenger car and SUV summer portfolio for the German market. The range, which consists of four “premium performance” tyres, has been developed and tested exclusively throughout Europe by the company’s Hannover-based R&D Centre. Giti stated that there were “no plans to replace the GT Radial brand”, previously positioned as its global flagship, in Europe when the commercial range was launched. According to the manufacturer, this remains the case, with the Giti PCR range designed to complement its existing GT Radial, Primewell and Runway brands; Giti will offer selected sizes aimed at specific vehicle segments.

Speedline Truck exhibiting at IAA Commercial Vehicles 2016 

Speedline Truck will be at IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hannover, Germany, from 22 to 29 September 2016 for the third time in a row.

Speedline’s newest model is the SLT 3774, wheel size 22.5×11.75″ (ET 45). With the SLT 3598 wheel (19.5×14.00″, ET 120) for megatrailer applications, Speedline Truck reports that it “provides a unique solution in the market”.

Preparing for re-entry: Continental returns to agri tyres with Project LousAgro

In the aftermath of June’s Brexit referendum, more than a few voices called for the UK government to reconsider its decision to leave the European Union. And while the new Prime Minister is adamant that “Brexit means Brexit,” we retain the option of later rejoining the club should we wish to. The same applies within the tyre industry, as we recently witnessed with Germany’s Continental AG. More than a decade after its ‘Agrexit’, the company will soon once again produce agricultural tyres under its main Continental brand name.

Continental returning to agricultural radial production in 2017

Over a number of years, Czech tyre maker Mitas a.s. has distanced itself in steps from the Continental brand it’s produced under licence since 2004. Three years ago the company announced an extension of this licence until 2019, however recent events have spurred Continental AG to reclaim its agricultural tyre brand ahead of this date. Continental has now announced a €49.9 million investment in its own agricultural tyre business, and the company will begin producing agricultural radials next year.

Laufenn to be sold in 70 markets by year’s end

Not only was Hankook Tire present at Reifen 2016 with products from its flagship Hankook brand, including its new Ventus Prime³ comfort tyre and innovations such as Sealguard and sound absorbing foam, the South Korean manufacturer also presented its second brand, Laufenn, which is now being introduced into European markets.

OE focus for latest Giti Tire appointments

With an eye on increasing its OEM business, Giti Tire has announced two senior appointments at its R&D Centre Europe. Dr Claus Oberbeck has taken on the role of OE chief engineer at the facility in Hannover, Germany, while Martin Wells has become global account manager for German OEMs.

Balance of performance – GT Radial SportActive targets a changing UHP segment

Upon launching its Savero SUV tyre last September, the company behind the GT Radial brand gave a sneak preview of a new tyre scheduled for introduction in 2016. As we reported at the time, this tyre, the SportActive, takes the baton from the GT Radial Champiro UHP1 and Champiro HPY to become the flagship UHP tyre in the GT Radial portfolio. Following a limited launch in several non-seasonal markets, manufacturer Giti Tire has now released an initial range of 27 SportActive sizes in all European markets.

Bus manufacturer Solaris approves ContiPressureCheck for OE fitment

The ContiPressureCheck tyre pressure monitoring system from Continental has been approved for operational use by Polish bus manufacturer Solaris, and will be fitted as original equipment on the city and regional buses it produces. Solaris began delivering the first 60 city buses equipped with ContiPressureCheck to a customer in Krakow at the start of February.

Management reshuffle for Conti’s aftermarket truck tyre business

Continental has announced several changes within the management of its replacement truck tyre business for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. With the appointment of a sales director for truck tyres within the Truck Tires Replacement business, the company has separated the coordination of all sales activities in the EMEA region into new position. Barry Guildford has been appointed to the position.

Continental to build new headquarters – towns bid to host facility

Continental has outgrown its headquarters in Hanover, Germany, and is in the process of identifying a suitable site to build a new, larger premises. The city of Hannover has already made Continental an offer in order to keep the tyre maker and automotive industry supplier at home there, however towns in the surrounding region are also attempting to lure the company to a new location so that they may benefit from Conti’s local business taxes.

Continental names Gainza its EMEA truck tyre marketing director

Daniel Gainza has taken on the role of director of marketing, truck tyres EMEA at Continental Corporation. Our sister publication PneusNews.it reports that Gainza, a Spanish national, started in this position at Continental’s head office in Hannover, Germany on 1 January 2016. Prior to this latest appointment, Gainza held the position of business director for Continental’s commercial vehicle segment in Italy, a role he took on in 2007. He will continue to serve in this capacity during a transition period.
