Call for nominations for Low Carbon Champions Awards
The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) will formally open its call for nominations to the 2016 Low Carbon Champions Awards in the week beginning 11 April. The Champions Awards celebrate organisations that have made a real difference in the area of low carbon road transport. There are seven Award categories, ranging from cars to innovation, from fuels to publications, and the winners will be announced at a gala dinner that will take place alongside Cenex’s Low Carbon Vehicle Event (Cenex-LCV) on Wednesday, 14 September 2016.

Responding to the Asphalt Industry Alliance’s annual ALARM survey, Cllr Peter Box, transport spokesman at the Local Government Association, said: It is becoming increasingly urgent to address the roads crisis we face as a nation. Our roads are deteriorating fast and it would take almost £12 billion and be close to 2030 before we could bring them up to scratch and clear the current roads repair backlog.

British car manufacturing figures for February 2016 show that car manufacturing is still booming. According to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), output rose 13.1 per cent compared with February 2015. Reflecting the growing popularity of UK-built cars both at home and abroad, February’s performance puts production for the year-to-date up 10.6 per cent over the same period last year. Output for the domestic market rose 24.4 per cent in the month, accompanied by a 9.1 per cent increase in export production.

Firestone has launched its sponsorship of a stage for up-and-coming musicians at selected Barclaycard Arena events. The Firestone Stage allows acts to play inside the Birmingham venue before headliners take to the stage, and was officially launched on 21 March at Ellie Goulding’s Birmingham show. The stage offers musical talent from across the UK to play in front of up to 15,800 people on the main concourse. Kwik Fit has doubled the fleet warranty it offers on friction brake parts. According to the company, it is an “industry-leading move that will deliver operating cost savings to the corporate sector”. This means the firm now offers 24 months/24,000 miles warranty, up from 12 months/12,000 miles across brake pads, discs, drums and shoes. Kwik Fit reports that it is able to do this due to the training and workmanship of its expert technicians.

The Kwik Fit Group has agreed a partnership deal that sees the Kwik Fit tyre retail and fast-fit brand expand into Italy. Under the terms of the agreement, 200 centres are set to open over the next decade. The expansion is based on a franchise agreement with CDG-ONE, part of Segema S.p.A., a leading tyre distribution group in Italy. Segema imports and distributes Yokohama tyres in Italy through Yokohama Italia S.p.A. and GiTi Tyres through Magri Gomme S.p.A.

A serious warehouse fire has delayed the launch of Michelin Lifestyle’s new Car Care Range in the UK. The products were due to be fully rolled out by the end of this month, however Tyres & Accessories understands that the factory/warehouse that was storing the products has suffered a fire and the majority of the products were destroyed. Company representatives explained: “The Car Care products are still due to launch across Asda stores nationwide, but as a result of this unfortunate event it will not be by the end of this month as planned.”

He has more than 30 years’ experience in the motor industry, being part of the sales department at dealerships selling LCVs and HGVs for manufacturers including Ford, Renault, LDV, and Isuzu Trucks. He was also senior editor of CAP Red Book and, most recently, worked for CDL on data products.
