Apollo preparing for TBR sales surge in Iran, anticipates post-sanctions boom
Some 300,000 commercial vehicle tyres are sold in Iran every month, reports Apollo Tyres, with radials accounting for approximately 60 per cent of the total. The tyre maker began selling TBR tyres in Iran more than two years ago and now states that it aims for an unspecified but “significant” increase in sales of these products in the country before the current financial year ends on 31 March 2016.

This year Linglong Tire marks its 40th anniversary. To this end, the company’s Autopromotec 2015 stand carried suitably celebratory messages, not to mention the “appearance” of two top-flight footballers. As “Top Partner” to German Bundesliga VfL Wolfsburg, Linglong Tire displayed the life-size full-body photos of Wolfsburg stars Kevin De Bruyne and Bas Dost for visitors to take pictures next to. Linglong Tire also hosted a football shooting game during the exhibition, which was reportedly “warmly welcomed” by visitors.

Online tyre retailer Delticom has begun rolling out the first in a series of new national websites that combine tyre sales, tips and information in the one location. Delticom’s name for the new information portal is TyresNet, and it says it aims to “open up the world of tyres and wheels” to motorists and tyre, rim and wheel suppliers. The first two sites to go live cater to the German (reifen.de) and Austrian (reifen.at) markets.

According to the company, this meant the contract manufacturer attracted “a constant stream of visitors including established customers and potentially new international distribution partners”. Peter Nicholls, SD-Internationals sales and marketing director explained, stating: “With a recently opened new warehouse in Germany enabling swift delivery throughout Europe, we were initially intending to attract increased customer sales in Italy and other parts of Europe.

The Open Country A/T II is the best-selling Toyo product in North America, and is described by its manufacturer as a “favourite among truck enthusiasts”. Ram Trucks, the pick-up truck brand established by Fiat Chrysler in 2010, has selected the tyre as the exclusive original equipment fitment for its new Ram 1500 Rebel. And the Toyo tyre is present inside the pick-up, too. In addition to being shod with the Open Country A/T II in size LT285/70R17, the Rebel’s front and rear passenger seats are embossed with the tyre’s tread pattern.

Global rice paddy production amounts to around 700 million tonnes each year, and some 20 per cent of this total paddy weight is made up of rice husk, which is separated in the rice milling process and has traditionally been discarded by burning (including to generate electricity) or by dumping in landfill. But in recent times new uses have been found for this former waste. Goodyear Tire & Rubber, for example, has tested silica derived from rice husk ash over the past two years. The tyre maker has now reached a supply agreement with China’s Yihai Food and Oil Industry for silica derived from rice husk ash, and will begin manufacturing a tyre containing this silica at its Pulandian factory in China this year. The tyre will be sold in the Chinese domestic market.
