Although Yokohama Rubber plans to “create a premier global tyre manufacturing company” through its acquisition of Alliance Tire Group (ATG) and resultant synergies in expertise and experience, the Japanese firm confirms it will retain the ATG business model, along with the company’s “culture” and brands.

Later this year, Hankook Tire’s North American headquarters will relocate from New Jersey to Nashville, Tennessee. Hankook Tire America Corp announced that an investment of approximately US$5 million will go into setting up its new headquarters there, adding that the project will create up to 200 jobs in the local area.

Nexen Tire is advertising in a motorsport championship that doesn’t actually exist in the real world, and that’s a good thing, as this non-existent championship is the mobile racing game Asphalt 8. Starting 30 March, the tyre maker is targeting consumers in European markets through the placement of video and banner advertisements within the Asphalt 8 game and by holding various in-game events, including a customised sponsor cup – the Nexen Tire Cup – and by offering mini games for European markets.

During a visit to China last week, Thailand’s Minister of Industry, Atchaka Sibunruang, and representatives from the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand visited the Zhaoyuan headquarters of Shangdong Linglong Tire and the tyre maker’s exhibition space at the China Qingdao International Tire Fair. A meeting also took place on 8 April between the Authority and Shandong Linglong chairman Wang Feng; this resulted in the signing of a letter of intent that will see the tyre maker increase its investment in Thailand through initiating the third phase of its Linglong International Tire (Thailand) plant project, the installation of a rubber compounding facility at the Rayong province site.

Sailun-Jinyu Group has denied reports in Turkish newspaper Hürriyat suggesting the firm is planning on establishing a tyre factory in Turkey by 2020. The Hürriyat report, dated 5 March, said Sailun is planning to set up a joint-venture tyre factory in Turkey with its Turkish distribution partner there, Yeslas.

This will be known as the Plastics, Elastomers and Organic Synthesis Division. Pavel Lyakhovich, managing director of Sibur’s former Plastics and Organic Synthesis Products Division and member of the company’s Management Board, takes charge of the newly-merged division.
