The AA has welcomed the latest Department for Transport Think! campaign looking at the dangers of rural roads. Edmund King, AA president, said: “Many drivers, particularly young drivers, are under the miscomprehension that motorways are more dangerous than rural roads.

Rural roads may look idyllic, but the latest Think! campaign from the Department for Transport says that they are deadlier than they look. Consider; three people die each day on average on rural roads and the number of people killed on country roads is nearly eleven times higher than on motorways. In addition, a quarter of drivers have had a near miss and one driver in twenty has had a collision on a country road.

Klarius R&D in 24hr race to build Mosler exhaust
In the motorsport industry high speed is the norm, both on and off the track. When a Mosler MT900R race car run by Staffordshire University Race Team suffered damage to the rear chassis and exhaust system, a replacement OEM exhaust could not be supplied in time for the next race. After the initial setback the team approached the Klarius R&D department to see if it could help. They were amazed to discover that Klarius could design, manufacture and test a bespoke system, ready for delivery, in under 24 hours.

Adjustments to production capacity utilisation as well as cost savings will be achieved mainly with temporary lay-offs and transfers to new positions. In addition, a pension plan for two employees comes into effect.

It therefore comes as little surprise that the company has recently been twice honoured in its homeland for export activities.

Tyre campaigner says Transport Secretary ‘lacks leadership’ on tyre age legislation
Prominent tyre legislation campaigner, Frances Molloy has described the Secretary of State for Transport’s response to the issue of aged tyres in the market as “weak and lacking in leadership”. Molloy is lobbying the government to change the law on the fitment of over-age tyres, and gave a powerful presentation during Brityrex International’s TyreTalk seminar programme in Manchester. Describing the coalition government of being “anti-legislation”, Molloy vowed to maintain her campaign until the government introduces legislation to restrict the fitment of old tyres on Public Service Vehicles.

NTDA Tyre Industry Award 2014 winners announced
The winners of the 2014 Tyre Industry Awards were announced on 8 October at the 85th annual NTDA Dinner. The awards once again generated wide interest within the British industry, with 14,000 votes cast across the five voting categories. In the Tyre Centre of the Year category, Encircle Marketing’s series of mystery shopping exercises dictated the winner; all four finalists were rewarded by a plaque.
