
Tyre Safety Month registration underway
Tyre Safety Month 2015 registration began on 9 July, following TyreSafe’s annual briefing. Running throughout October, Tyre Safety Month is the tyre industry’s main annual campaign, providing a focal point for the entire industry and an ideal platform to educate road users about the importance of correct tyre care and maintenance. The awareness raising campaign brings road safety professionals, government officials, emergency services, businesses, tyre dealers and others together to organise local awareness-raising events throughout the UK.

Owing to the fact that TyreSafe now has over 100 active members (many of which are large and/or influential businesses in their respective areas), the organisation is better placed than ever to effect change and there certainly seems to have been progress towards the association’s goal of changing hearts and minds in relation to tyres. As Stuart Jackson said during his presentation at the recent TyreSafe annual briefing, “let’s not talk about it being a commodity, it is a safety critical product”.

Bridgestone backing Bush Tyres-organised Props and Pistons event
Bush Tyres and Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre have assembled some of the world’s most iconic planes and automobiles for a fifth annual extravaganza with the support of Bridgestone. The Props and Pistons event, which will welcome £20 million worth of luxury cars and some of the most famous wartime aircraft, will take place on Monday 31 August, with proceeds going towards Leukemia & Lymphona Research.

CAM to support Practical Skills Therapeutic Education provider
CAM is supporting Gloucestershire-based Ruskin Mill College as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme for 2015. The college, which recently achieved a new ‘Good’ rating following an Ofsted inspection, is one of four specialist centres operated by Ruskin Mill Trust that provides Practical Skills Therapeutic Education, inspired by Rudolf Steiner, John Ruskin and William Morris, for both day and residential provision.

Routemaster bus voted second best-ever British design
The Routemaster bus has been named the second greatest British design of all time, just losing out to the red telephone box. A vote to decide the best design was conducted earlier this month, with the popular red vehicle being highly regarded by the public. The poll, sponsored by a mobile phone manufacturer, had the Union flag coming in third place.

Following news that the Government plans to consult on extending the MoT period from three years to four, HPI, provider of the HPI Check, warns that the risk of clocking fraud could escalate significantly. The new plans were announced in the budget, which prompted an industry backlash concerning the risk to consumer safety, if vehicles are left without an MoT for an extra year. However, HPI sees a hidden threat from clockers, who will take advantage of the extension to turn back the mileage and sell the vehicles on to unsuspecting buyers.

Hankook exclusive tyre partner for Australia’s Extreme Rallycross series
Newly-launched Australian rallycross series Sidchrome Extreme Rallycross has selected Hankook Tire as exclusive tyre partner for the next three years. The first event in the inaugural seven-round series takes place in Brisbane on 4 and 5 September, and all three race classes will run on 17-inch Hankook Ventus rally tyres.

Marangoni announces change in German management
Retreading specialist Marangoni intends to integrate the distribution of all product lines within its German operation, and to help achieve this goal Christoph Frost has joined the management of Marangoni Retreading Systems Deutschland GmbH as managing director, sales and marketing D-A-CH. He began in this role on 1 July and as such takes on responsibility for distribution of pre-cure retreading materials in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Frost retains his existing positions as managing director of Wenzel Industrie GmbH and of recently-acquired OTR tyre retreader Recamax Reifen GmbH.

At the end of May Kwik Fit received Ofsteds highest possible ranking for its apprenticeship scheme. The company has been graded Level 1 (Outstanding), following the inspection in April. The publication of the inspection report comes as Kwik Fit announces that it is opening applications for 100 apprentices to join the company in August, having already taken on 100 employees on its apprenticeship programme earlier this year.

In his new role, Takacs takes responsibility for European pricing, product marketing and distribution channel management.
