Hankook exclusive tyre partner for Australia’s Extreme Rallycross series
Newly-launched Australian rallycross series Sidchrome Extreme Rallycross has selected Hankook Tire as exclusive tyre partner for the next three years. The first event in the inaugural seven-round series takes place in Brisbane on 4 and 5 September, and all three race classes will run on 17-inch Hankook Ventus rally tyres.

Marangoni announces change in German management
Retreading specialist Marangoni intends to integrate the distribution of all product lines within its German operation, and to help achieve this goal Christoph Frost has joined the management of Marangoni Retreading Systems Deutschland GmbH as managing director, sales and marketing D-A-CH. He began in this role on 1 July and as such takes on responsibility for distribution of pre-cure retreading materials in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Frost retains his existing positions as managing director of Wenzel Industrie GmbH and of recently-acquired OTR tyre retreader Recamax Reifen GmbH.

At the end of May Kwik Fit received Ofsteds highest possible ranking for its apprenticeship scheme. The company has been graded Level 1 (Outstanding), following the inspection in April. The publication of the inspection report comes as Kwik Fit announces that it is opening applications for 100 apprentices to join the company in August, having already taken on 100 employees on its apprenticeship programme earlier this year.

In his new role, Takacs takes responsibility for European pricing, product marketing and distribution channel management. Continental previews ContiSportAttack 3 tyre
The third generation of Continental’s ContiSportAttack hypersport tyre has been launched ahead of its market introduction early next year. The official ContiSportAttack 3 debut took place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria earlier this month. Former MotoGP rider Alex Hofmann was present at the event and led other launch attendees, including ContiMoto UK, as they put the new tyres through their paces on the latest BMW S1000RR.

Barkley – focusing on price and quality in the agricultural tyre market
After obtaining regional exclusivity, Heuver Tyrewholesale has begun sales of the Barkley agricultural range in Europe, including the UK. The Netherlands-based wholesaler expects sales interest due to the variety of fitments available and the price/quality ratio on offer (Heuver Tyrewholesale says it extensively tested the brand before taking it on), and anticipates that Barkley will play an “important” role in Heuver’s exports to Eastern and Southern Europe, as well as to Scandinavia.

ETRMA: increased car demand lifted European premium tyre markets
Increased demand for new car purchases has led to increased tyre demand across Europe, according to the latest data released by the European Tyre Manufacturer’s Association. The ETRMA statistics reveal that consumer OE tyre sales were up 12 per cent, while truck tyre OE was up a 21 per cent. The association linked this increase directly to new vehicle OE growth, which in the case of passenger cars, grew 14.6 per cent in the period.

Continental AG has announced what it is calling a voluntary tyre exchange programme (as opposed to a recall) of approximately 12,000 truck tyres. The tyre in question is a 205/75R17.5 Conti Hybrid LS3, produced from calendar week 27 in 2014 to calendar week 26 in 2015. The product was mainly sold to original equipment manufacturers in Europe and – to a lesser degree – into the replacement market. Continental stressed that there have been no reports of accidents or injuries.

Halfords reports £1 billion annual group revenues, a year earlier than planned
Automotive retail chain Halfords, which includes the growing and increasingly tyre-influenced Halfords Autocentres business, has reported annual group revenues of £1 billion – a year ahead of the company’s plan to reach this milestone. The figures, released on 5 June and followed up with a trading statement on 15 July that pointed to further growth are at least partly driven by the growth of the firm’s online business which saw sales in the year to March 2015 exceed £100 million, representing growth of +14.3 per cent. Indeed, the fourth quarter of 2015 alone saw online sales grow +12.6 per cent. The result is a positive impact on the group’s pre-tax profits (EBITDA), which were up 8.7 per cent.

The notification in question, as reported by the Express & Star, offers Goodyear Dunlop workers job opportunities within the human resources, production and quality departments of a company plant in Mexico.
