Earlier this month, the annual Punjabi Icon Awards were held in Mumbai, India, and Surender Singh Kandhari was amongst those honoured at the ceremony. The Punjabi Cultural Heritage Board (PCHB), an organisation representing Sikhs and Punjabis in the city of Mumbai and state of Maharashtra, awarded Kandhari for his achievement in the global corporate sector.

Management changes at Federal-Mogul Motorparts
Federal-Mogul Motorparts, a division of Federal-Mogul Holdings Corporation, has announced changes to its senior management personnel and structure. Martin Hendricks, president, Global Braking and regional president, EMEA, will additionally assume the responsibilities for Aftermarket EMEA, a post previously held by Olivier Legrand. Massimo Altafini has been confirmed as the new vice-president, Sales Aftermarket EMEA. These changes became effective as of 1 April 2016.

Goodyear: volumes up in Q1 2016, operating margin grows to 11.4%
Goodyear Tire & Rubber has released its results for the first three months of 2016. During the first quarter of the current financial year, the company achieved higher sales volumes compared with the same period a year earlier, however sales revenues were slightly lower. Operating income and margin was higher, while a number of one-off occurrences impacted upon net income.

Imports creating disquiet within India’s tyre industry
Recently, the mouthpiece association for tyre dealers in India released statistics that appear to contradict concerns expressed by the body representing the country’s tyre manufacturers. After the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) petitioned India’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry in March to increase duties on truck and bus radials imported from China, the All India Tyre Dealers Federation (AITDF) responded with figures that show quantities of imported tyres arriving in India are falling rather than rising. The ATMA has in turn hit back, claiming that the AITDF numbers don’t tell the full story.

The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) and Scottish Motor Trade Association (SMTA) are seeking to survey their members and the motor industry to assess the impact of the Government’s latest changes to road tax on the annual MOT test. Both organisations have concerns that following the removal of the paper tax disk and the introduction of monthly direct debits to pay road tax, motorists are unintentionally breaking the law by forgetting to MOT their cars.

March diesel sales were up by 7.9 per cent, petrol sales up by a surprising 5.6 per cent and overall sales including commercial up by 7.0 per cent versus same month last year. “Latest Government data suggests that increased economic activity and cheaper prices had a significant impact on the demand for fuel in the month to 14 March”, said Brian Madderson, chairman of the Petrol Retailers Association.

In April 2017 a new apprenticeship levy will be introduced with the purpose of increasing the quality and number of apprenticeships across UK. Employers with a wage-bill of less than £3 million will not pay the levy, whereas those with a wage-bill of £3 million or more will have to contribute at a rate of 0.5 per cent of their pay bill. However, the first £3 million of the payroll will be excluded by a discount that will give some relief, in line with smaller businesses.
