Lassa launches Snoways 3

Lassa Tyres presented its latest winter tyre, the Snoways 3 at Autopromotec. In addition Lassa showcased 21 different models, which are marketed and sold in more than 60 countries.

Despite the launch, the main focus of Lassa stand was the flagship Phenoma UHP tyre, which is said to be a popular choice in sport and prestige segment for upper class automobiles and tuning vehicles. The Competus H/P, Impetus REVO and Greenways, Lassa’s eco-friendly passenger tyre line, were also on-show.

Avon becomes Time Attack series tyre partner

Avon Motorsport has taken its place alongside Pirelli as one of two tyre companies sponsoring the Time Attack series in 2013. At the first event of the year at Cadwell Park Avon tyres were used to claim the overall fastest lap, a new Time Attack lap record in qualifying, and second place overall in the intensely close Pro Class final, thanks to the Mitsubishi Evo of Gareth Lloyd. Time Attack organiser, Andy Barnes praised Avon for recognising the potential of the championship, and the good fit with the brand’s products provided by the series.

Michelin Pilot Super Sport ZP OE on Corvette Stingray

Michelin has announced that it will fit its specially developed Pilot Super Sport ZP as original equipment on the full 2014 range of Chevrolet Corvette Stingray models. Michelin reveals that the deal has come about as a result of its relationship with Chevrolet at the American Le Mans Series. The French tyre giant previously gained fitments for the 2009 Corvette ZR1 and 2011 Corvette Z06.

Golf GTi Championship picks Tarox F2000 as control brake disc

Tarox F2000 brake discs have been made available to the Golf GTi Championship, a staple on the MSVR calendar. Competitors can choose to run an OEM style ‘smooth’ disc, or benefit from the improved cooling and pad-facing ability of the Tarox F2000 control option; the choice is left up to the teams. For 2013, competitors can also spec up to the larger 256mm set-up from the later GTi models. A combination, when fitted with a suitably aggressive pad and F2000 disc, that should see lap times falling amongst the quicker cars.

Hofmann Power Weight to ‘Colour Up’ wheels at Essen Show

Hofmann Power Weight has shared some details of its plans to exhibit at the Essen Motor Show from 1 – 9 December 2012. Amongst other things, automobile enthusiasts will be able to purchase the appropriate adhesive weight for their wheel rims from the Hofmann stand. Exhibiting at the 2012 show will be Hofmann’s first appearance at the event, which is seen as a key meeting point for the tuning fraternity.

Vredestein supplying winter tyres to Gemballa

German tuning specialist Gemballa has entered into a supply arrangement with Vredestein; the tyre maker refers to the result as the “ultimate winter tyre package.” Under the partnership with Gemballa, Vredestein will supply winter tyres that accommodate the levels of performance Gemballa vehicles are known for; first tyre to be provided to the tuner is the Wintrac Nextreme SUV, a tyre Vredestein says can “perform as a winter tyre on snow and ice, handles well on dry roads and is able to cope with speeds of up to 300 km/h.”

Milltek Sport releases ‘Toyobaru’ performance exhaust system

Milltek has designed and manufactured a new exhaust system for all three variants of the anticipated ‘Toyobaru’ – a vehicle the company describes as “one of the most hotly-anticipated tuner cars of the last decade”. The Toyota GT86, Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S – the three versions of the tuning car – is to be offered gains in power “throughout the rev range”, according to Milltek. The exhaust manufacturer’s engineers worked alongside leading Subaru tuner Litchfield to create a design that enhanced the normally aspirated flat-four engine.

Toyo’s Proxes range focuses on high performance sector

Toyo quips that it already has many car-control world records under its ‘steel belt’, and thus the high performance Proxes range needs little introduction to the discerning enthusiast. The name is solely linked to the high performance segment, and Toyo says the Proxes is widely considered to be one of the finest wet-weather and most consistent dry handling tyres available, a tyre chosen by many car manufacturers as an original equipment fitment. German manufacturer Audi, for example, has chosen Toyo Tires to be fitted to several vehicles; the S6, the RS5, the TT, TT-S and TT-RS. Mazda, Toyota and Westfield, to name a few more, are also rolling out of their factories on Proxes OE fitments.

Road legal track tyre a first for Conti

Continental has introduced a road legal track day tyre into the UK, and the company says this latest product sets a new benchmark for high performance cars. The tyre is the ContiForceContact, which visitors to February’s Geneva Motor Show may have seen fitted to the Conti-liveried Artega GT sports car that competed in last year’s Nürburgring 24-hour race. The ContiForceContact is the German manufacturer’s first road legal track day tyre.

Momo releases new Quantum alloy wheel

The Quantum is the latest alloy wheel from Italian tuning and style specialists, Momo. It carries on the Momo tradition of sharp design and good looks, featuring a 10-spoke design and a modern, all-over, anthracite finish, with a twin spoke design drawing the eye into the famous Momo logo on the centre cap.

Vredestein launches its “ultimate high performance tyre”

Apollo Vredestein has introduced its new ultra high performance summer tyre in Budapest, the Ultrac Vorti. The tyre, like the simultaneously launched Sportrac 5, has been designed by Italian company Giugiaro for a sporty, distinctive appearance. Vredestein says the Y-indexed tyre excels in terms of grip, handling and braking on both dry and wet surfaces. The Ultrac Vorti name was also created by Giugiaro, inspired by the powerful vortex air flow that is generated, for example, when a helicopter takes off. The name reflects the speeds and forces that the Ultrac Vorti can handle, rated for up to 300kmh, while the tread is reminiscent of the tips of helicopter blades.

Wheelwright launches 2012 Calibre Couture wheel range

Kent-based distributor Wheelwright has launched the Calibre Couture range onto the UK market. The company said the collection of diverse designs would sit above the firm’s Calibre portfolio; the Couture range is aimed at the upper end of the vehicle parc, with several distinguished designs and fitments.

Hankook OE on Toyota iQ

Hankook Tire America reports its selection as an original equipment fitment on Toyota’s iQ micro car, the company’s first deal with the Japanese car maker. Hankook Tire says that after “successfully satisfied Toyota's testing, tuning and customising process criterion” it will supply size 175/65R15 84S for the iQ; the tyre maker has not specified which specific Hankook tyre range will be fitted to the Toyota.

Toyo to fit D3 Group Le Monstre CTS-V Coupe at SEMA

Toyo Tire USA has announced its fourth vehicle to be displayed at its booth at the 2011 SEMA Show: Le Monstre, a one-of-a-kind 2012 CTS-V Coupe from renowned Cadillac tuner, The D3 Group. The car will roll on 275/30ZR20 and 345/25ZR20 Toyo Proxes T1R UHP summer tyres. It will compete in time attack events during the 2012 road racing season.

BTCC attracting growing TV audience

Good news for the title sponsor and other supporters – official figures show the number of viewers tuning into watch the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship – the BTCC to its friends – has grown an average of 43 per cent this year. The British Audience Research Board gained this statistic from an analysis of viewer activity during the first seven rounds of the current season versus the first seven rounds of 2010; this latest figure shows a growing interest in the ITV coverage – after the first three rounds the year-on-year increase was only 36 per cent.
