Dmack will introduce a new soft compound version of its DMG+2 rally tyre in Finland, while the tyre supplier will also enter last year’s Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy winner as a new team – Drive Dmack 2. With the tyre brand’s lead driver, Jari Ketomaa, forced onto the sidelines for his home rally on medical advice, Dmack completes its changes with a new driver; Ketomaa’s fellow Finn, Jarkko Nikara steps in to take his place on the Neste Oil Rally Finland.
Drive DMACK, the current WRC 2 teams world champion run by the authorised tyre supplier to the FIA World Rally Championship, will defend its title in 2015 with two Ford Fiesta R5s. Returning driver Jari Ketomaa will start at Rally Sweden, while Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy winner Sander Pärn will make the step up to WRC 2 at Rally Portugal. In terms of its tyre supply deal, Dmack said that it will provide a complete range of upgraded tyres this season, featuring evolved construction and compound specifications to boost performance across all surfaces.
The inaugural season of the Drive DMACK Fiesta trophy ends at Rally de España over the weekend, and the tyre manufacturer behind the competition has confirmed that the Fiesta Trophy will return in 2015. Appearing at five rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship, the series, designed as a cost-effective way into top level rallying, proved popular after being oversubscribed at the start of 2014.
The Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy switches surfaces for the only all-asphalt round at Rallye Deutschland. Round four of the trophy is expected to be the source of some surprises, as the asphalt specialists in the field pick up their pace in the chase for a full season in the 2015 FIA WRC 2 Championship. Sander Pärn leads the championship having excelled on gravel to win all of the first three rounds, but tarmac drivers such as Frenchman Quentin Gilbert, Spaniard Yeray Lemes and Belgium’s Ghislain de Mevius now have a good opportunity to claw back his advantage, since Pärn has only contested four events on the surface.
