
Lotus reveals new Emira sports car on Goodyear OE tyre
Earlier this month, Lotus revealed its latest sports car; the Lotus Emira. According to the company, it “delivers exotic supercar appeal in the sports car segment” and “above all, it looks like a Lotus”, while the design is “beautiful, timeless, memorable and modern.” Of course, what really interests this magazine are the wheels and tyres, and Lotus says that the Emira will have four 20-inch wheels. Standard tyre fitment is the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport, with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 available as an option. Lotus says that both tyres have been specially developed for the Emira by their manufacturers.

Average car tyre weight up 7% in 5 years, increasing recovery cost
The Tyre Recovery Association has revealed one simple factor behind the increased expense of collection and recycling end of life car tyres; they are getting heavier. New analysis by Astutus Research reveals that the average weight of a car tyre is now seven per cent more that it was just five years ago. Several factors have recently combined to push up the cost of waste tyre collection.

Scottish tractor run backed by Goodyear Farm Tires
A spectacular array of vintage tractors will take to the road in Scotland this coming weekend in aid of cancer charities as the Mearns Vintage Vehicle Club will be staging a Tractor Run from Laurencekirk to Brechin on Sunday, July 18. The run will start from road haulage and transport business Douglas Mitchell Limited in Laurencekirk at 9.30am and a convoy of around 60 tractors will make its way to the Brechin depot of leading Scottish tyre specialists Soltyre.

Ernst Prost to stand down as Liqui Moly CEO
Ernst Prost, CEO of German oil specialist supplier Liqui Moly, has announced that he will be leaving the company on 22nd February 2022; the date of his 65th birthday. Prost has been with the company for 31 years and, in an often-emotional open letter to colleagues, he says that “it feels as though I’m leaving my great love, knowing full well that I’ll miss her terribly.”

Carlton Forest Group has appointed Scott Robson managing director of its Renewables division. Robson has served as the group’s financial director since the second half of 2020, and in his new role, he will now guide the firm’s pyrolysis plant through final installation and commissioning ahead of its completion in the late summer.

Pirelli debuting new spec F1 rear tyre at Silverstone
The World Motor Sport Council convened during the 2021 FIA Conference on 8 July, and amongst the decisions reached was approval for the introduction of the new rear tyre specification that Pirelli had tested during free practice at the Austrian Grand Prix on 2 July. Pirelli will thus bring the new tyres to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this coming weekend.

Exports drive Rosava’s rising sales
A focus on export markets seems to be delivering results for Ukrainian tyre maker Rosava. The company is developing a “niche strategy focused on the European and US markets,” and reports that exports have grown to 61 per cent of total sales in the first half of 2021, up from 45 per cent in the first half of 2018. “This is possible due to the continuous upgrading, expansion of the tyre range and improvement of rubber compounding based on international standards,” shares the tyre maker.

Hankook supports 4-time British Rally champion Cronin’s 2021 return
Hankook is supporting four-time British Rally champion Keith Cronin, who has returned to the series this year.
