
European car registrations up 25.2% in H1 2021
The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) reports that passenger car registrations in the European Union increased again in June 2021 compared to the same month of last year, rising 10.4 per cent to 1,048,143 units. When factoring in the UK, which experienced a 28.0 per cent year-on-year increase to 186,128 new registrations, as well as EFTA markets, Europe-wide registrations of passenger cars increased 13.3 per cent to 1,282,503 units in June.

Connected cars: Market worth 1.8 billion euros in 2020, ADAS accounts for a third
During the pandemic year 2020, connected and intelligent car solutions reached a value of 1.8 billion euros. A third of the market is represented by ADAS systems (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, equating to 600 million euros). The largest segment is constituted by so-called solutions for the connected car, which in 2020 slowed down to 1.18 billion euros (-2%), after having grown in double figures during both 2018 (+ 31%) and in 2019 (+ 14%). Similar trends can be seen across Western countries, which oscillate between -5 per cent and + 5 per cent.

UK automotive parts distributor, Partbusters, has made a generous donation to the Great Ormond Street Hospital, raising approximately £1,500 for the charity. The figure included £600 from takings from the company’s coffee machine, which was then doubled by Ricky Bassi, director and founder of Partbusters, before other members of the Partbusters team rallied round to raise a fantastic £1500 for the charity.

Japanese Ambassador to the UK, Hayashi Hajime, visited global battery manufacturer GS Yuasa’s factory in Ebbw Vale on Friday 9 July as part of an official two-day visit to Wales to celebrate the strong connections between the two countries. During the visit, Hayashi Hajime toured the plant, which is owned by the Japanese based corporation and celebrated its 40th anniversary earlier this year, seeing first-hand how industrial batteries are produced by the 360-strong workforce.

Goodyear and TyreOps initiate inspection and jobs connection across Europe
Goodyear and TyreOps have created a connection to allow fleet, job and inspection data to be synchronised when carrying out work for fleets in a move that stretches across Europe. According to the companies, the connection will allow tyre businesses within the Goodyear network to save up to 50 per cent of admin time when carrying out fleet work and allows TyreOps users to manage assigned Goodyear fleets alongside their existing customers. As well as time savings and efficiency gains, the move is designed to “eliminate the need for double entry of data”.
