According, to the company NEX started its independent distribution and delivery operations in Spain last December.

Agri machinery manufacturers now switching from Continental to Mitas Premium tyres
Following its announcement in November that it would soon begin substituting the Continental brand name for Mitas Premium on its European market original equipment agricultural tyres, Mitas shares that the process began in January. Agricultural tyres included in the Mitas Premium product line are those designed for high-horsepower machines, including Very High Flexion (VF) and Super Flexion Tyres (SFT).

Autopromotec adds Industrial Vehicle Service to 2015 show
Autopromotec’s organisers have confirmed that the Industrial Vehicle Service (IVS) initiative, which is devoted to heavy vehicle maintenance and repair, will form part of the the 26th edition of the show that will take place in Bologna, 20 – 24 May 2015. The initiative, which was first launched during Autopromotec 2011, focuses on trucks and features an exclusive guide reserved for all exhibiting companies involved with heavy truck maintenance and repair, along with a specific logo that identifies manufacturers of truck equipment, spare parts and components.

The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association reports that its members’ car, truck and two-wheel tyre sales increased year-on-year in 2014, while agricultural tyre sales were down. Results for the fourth quarter alone were less positive, and the ETRMA comments they “further confirmed the downturn in sales registered in the third quarter of the year.” The exception to this was sales of motorcycle tyres, which remained positive all the way through 2014. The association opines that the lower results towards the end of the year may be linked to lacklustre winter tyre sales due to the mild winters experienced on the continent for the last couple of years.

Yokohama begins OE tyre manufacture in Russia to meet Nissan’s ‘buy local’ preference
Production of original equipment passenger car tyres has begun at Yokohama Rubber’s factory in Russia’s Lipetsk region. The tyre maker reports that LLC Yokohama R.P.Z. began original equipment tyre production in November 2014 in response to a direct request from Nissan Russia. The Nissan operation is said to be curtailing its use of tyres manufactured in other countries, presumably to counter the rouble’s devaluation during the last half-year.

Honda Racing Corporation’s Hiroshi Aoyama has told MotoGP’s official website that his first contact with Michelin’s tyres – at Sepang testing at the end of 2014 – made him feel “comfortable”. He added that while conditions were hot, and he would want to improve the bike’s interaction with Michelin’s rubber, “tyre performance was already quite good.”

Euro Car Parts has announced its commitment of capital into developing a network of UK “super hubs” in 2015. ECP claims the new super hubs will create “over 1,000 new jobs, build in excess of one million square feet of new warehousing and achieve 100 per cent availability of an expanded choice of stock to customers.” The latter would be achieved by “increasing the frequency of, and speeding up delivery schedules to workshops by local hubs and branches,” ECP adds.

Lyons to head Giti international PCR marketing and sales
Giti Tire managing director – Europe, Richard Lyons has been appointed director of international marketing & sales for passenger car. Lyons will retain his role within Europe while increasing the scope of his responsibility for Giti passenger car tyres. Complementing the role fulfilled by Chris Bloor, director of international marketing & sales for commercial tyres, they are jointly responsible for all commercial and product activities outside of the Chinese and Indonesian markets across the replacement and original equipment initiatives, the manufacturer states.

Michelin describes Exelagri plans as ‘ambitious’
As reported last month, Michelin is gearing up to make some changes to its Exelagri dealer network in Europe. In a UK-market press release, the tyre maker describes these changes to its agricultural tyre dealer programme as “ambitious growth plans” and says its enlarged, 1,000 outlet network aims to gain a 50 per cent share of the agricultural tyre market by 2024. While the release does not specify where this growth will take place, Tyres & Accessories understands that Exelagri growth efforts will focus on Eastern Europe.

Ford GT to roll on Michelin rubber
Michelin reports the selection of its tyres for several new cars on display or debuting at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This roll call of fresh original equipment fitments includes the new Ford GT, the highly anticipated mid-engine supercar developed to mark the 50th anniversary of its namesake placing 1-2-3 at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans.
