Trelleborg has won the “Neumático del Año Agrícola 2016” or Agricultural Tyre of the Year award in Spain. On 26 July Trelleborg received the award for its new TM1060 range. Organised by NMR magazine - Neumáticos y Mecánica Rápida - the award recognises outstanding contributions to the agricultural industry in terms of innovation, performance and respect for the environment.

Italy’s Pirelli & C. SpA has announced net sales of €3.0 billion during the six months to 30 June 2016. This is 6.6 per cent lower than the net sales achieved by the Pirelli Group in the first half of last year, yet the company says the result represents a year-on-year organic growth of 5.9 per cent (with the same perimeter and net of an 8.8 per cent negative foreign exchange effect). Sales within Pirelli’s Consumer business (car, light commercial and motorcycle tyres) amounted to €2.5 billion, including €1.6 billion of premium products, while Industrial business sales totaled €497.3 million.

Avon Tyre enhances Derby County sponsorship to appear on kit
Derby County has made Avon Tyres its back of shirt and shorts sponsor for the upcoming 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship season. The sponsorship agreement means the Avon Tyres logo will appear on the back of the Rams’ first-team shirts and shorts for the entire campaign. Avon initially teamed up with the club in February 2016 to become the Rams’ Official Tyre Partner. The brand says it opted to increase its involvement for the new season due to the success of the partnership.

All-season tyres added to Pirelli Carrier family
When Pirelli introduced its Carrier van tyre range two years ago, the company stated an aim of making Carrier the “European leader in the tyre replacement market for light commercial vehicles.” the initial summer tyre line was joined by a selection of winter products in the run-up to the 2014/15 season, and now demand in a fast-growing market segment will be satisfied with the introduction of the Pirelli Carrier All Season.

Production has commenced at Evonik Industries’ new precipitated silica plant in Brazil. The facility in Americana, São Paulo state is the first to produce highly dispersible silica for the South American tyre industry, and was set up with a “mid-double-digit million euro” investment. Evonik has yet to comment on the plant’s initial or maximum production capacity, however it declares its global capacity for precipitated and fume silicas, and for matting agents, to be 600,000 tonnes a year.

Vipal Rubber signs retread manufacturing joint venture with Mezcla Caucho
Vipal brand hot retreading products will be manufactured in Spain thanks to a new joint venture started by the South American market leader and Mezclas Caucho. Not only is this a first in Europe; the JV’s production line will be the first anywhere in the world for Vipal outside its domestic Brazilian market. The agreement was officially signed during Reifen 2016, the world’s largest tyre trade show, which was held in May in Essen, Germany. It adds to Vipals increased activities in Europe, marked by sustained expansion over recent years.

Protyre dips toe in Scottish water with Denton Tyre acquisition
Micheldever Tyre Services reports its acquisition of a “much respected family business.” Denton Tyre Centre, which operates two outlets in Carlisle and one in Dumfries and fits 100,000 tyres a year, has joined the company’s Protyre retail division. The Dumfries outlet becomes Protyre’s first in Scotland.

Korean dash cam market leader launches F50 model in UK
Thinkware has announced the launch of its latest dashboard camera (or “dash cam”), the F50, which is now available to purchase in the UK. The F50 is equipped with an Ambarella chipset and Sony Exmor CMOS image sensor that records detailed full HD 1080p video at 30 frames per second, a 130-degree viewing angle and a built in Active Impact monitoring system. Kumho ready for Zandvoort Masters
