The company’s continued commitment to raising awareness of tyre safety and the dangers of poorly maintained or part worn tyres was again applauded by the judging panel. Protyre’s initiatives during last year’s Tyre Safety Month included free safety checks, customer email campaigns and a full day of live radio interviews.

NFDA writes to government about impact of debit card charges

“The NFDA has written to HM Treasury and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to highlight the serious impact that the debit card charges introduced by the Interchange Fee Regulation are having on our members”, said Sue Robinson, Director of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) which represents franchised car and commercial vehicle retailers in the UK.

Exol Golf Day is a success

Moving forward it’ll be increasingly the job of workshops to ensure all manner of systems function correctly, and as many components are intrinsically integrated into a vehicle’s engine management system, their presence is going to have an enormous impact upon the aftermarket. Hella states it is leveraging its strengths in sensor technology development to ease technicians’ jobs – the company has produced a wide range of original equipment products that includes intelligent battery sensors, vacuum pumps, accelerator pedal sensors, oil level sensors, air quality sensors, knock sensors and map controlled sensors.

Acquisition ugliness: Kumho Tire execs threaten mass resignation

Qingdao Doublestar Tire’s bid to acquire 42.01 per cent of South Korean tyre maker Kumho Tire is developing into a drama of the sort not witnessed since a stubborn Cooper Chengshan Tire helped derail Apollo Tyres’ purchase of Cooper Tire & Rubber. Business Korea writes today that 41 Kumho Tire executives, including chief executive officer Lee Han-seob, intend to resign should Kumho Tire’s creditors sell the share to Doublestar.

Goodyear Declares Dividend on Common Stock

Directors of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company have declared a quarterly dividend of US$0.10 per share of common stock. The dividend is payable 1 September 2017 to shareholders of record on 1 August 2017. The payout represents an annual rate of $0.40 cents per share.

Tyrexpo India: 2,000+ visitors to 2017 show

The three-day Tyrexpo India trade fair concluded yesterday, and organiser SingEx Exhibitions reports the attendance of 2,017 trade visitors at the show in Chennai. There they met with close to 80 exhibitors from 30 countries and participated in added-value programmes such as the TyreTalk/GarageTalk seminars and Tyrexpo/GarageXpo technical workshops. SingEx comments that the seminars and workshops were well received.

Linglong Tire partners in China’s first 3D printed tyre project

Joint developmental work between Shandong Linglong Tire and the Beijing University of Chemical Technology recently bore fruit with the successful production of 3D printed polyurethane tyres. The tyre maker comments that this 3D tyre printing is a first in China.

Continental awards top Automotive Group suppliers

At its 2017 Supplier Day, Continentals Automotive Group honoured 15 companies with Supplier of the Year awards for their performance during the 2016 production year. Contenders from the more than 2,700 series suppliers whose components Continental used last year were evaluated in the 15 category awards for quality, technology, costs and purchasing conditions and logistics. The category winners were awarded by Dr Elmar Degenhart, chairman of Continental AG’s Executive Board, and Günter Fella, head of purchasing at Continental Automotive.

Michelin fitted to DAF dealer’s demonstrator

Customers putting TBF Thompson’s new DAF XF 510 demonstrator through its paces are experiencing the top-spec tractor’s on-road performance fitted to Michelin tyres. The County Antrim-based DAF dealer selected 315/70 R 22.5 steer and drive tyres from Michelin’s X Multi ‘regional’ range as a factory-fitted option for its latest demonstrator. TBF Thompson director Alan Espie says: “We want customers to experience the XF at its very best, so we selected leather seats and a range of in-cab options for maximum driver comfort, plus specified premium Michelin tyres as original equipment.
