Muted May growth for European car market
Demand for new passenger cars in the European Union increased for the 21st month in a row in May. The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) reports that monthly registrations rose 1.3 per cent year-on-year to 1,109,893 units. This figure is, admittedly, the lowest percentage increase since this period of consecutive growth began.

The Alliance of British Drivers (ABD) has issued a call to arms for all drivers, saying it is celebrating the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta with a 21st century mobility charter. This summer, millions of Britains drivers will likely crawl to their holidays on a crumbling road network, congested with road works, the Alliance argues. Yet according to a survey carried out for the ABD last year, some two-thirds of drivers are unaware that they pay roughly five times over for the service they get.

An analysis of RAC breakdowns has shown that potholes are more of a problem to British drivers than ever, according to a spokesperson for Click4Warranty. Faulty suspension and damaged springs are traditional indicators of the condition of Britain’s road surfaces. More faulty springs means more potholes and more potholes means more wear and tear on your vehicle. Britain has seen a dramatic increase in the number of suspension-related repairs in the UK over the last three years, with the annual cost for drivers reaching £730m.
