UK first as Autoparts vending machines provided to AA by The Parts Alliance
The Parts Alliance has launched autoparts vending machines in partnership with the AA. The machines are designed to provide the UK’s biggest breakdown provider with access to parts on the road, 24 hours a day. The PA PartVend concept is being piloted in a number of strategic locations, with the machines electronically linked so The Parts Alliance can tell instantly which products are being used and when to replenish the stock.

Research from fleet management specialist Venson supports Brake Road Safety Week by asking drivers what one thing they would do to make roads safer. Venson is helping to highlight Brake Road Safety Week (23-29 November 2015) with its latest research aimed at understanding drivers’ approach to road safety. When asked what one thing they would do to help with road safety while driving, the top answer from respondents was ‘be more patient’ (24 per cent), with ‘giving themselves more time for journeys’ coming second (20 per cent).

2015 marks the end of the era. I am not referring to the departure of any key executives, although there have been those. Neither I am talking about the mergers and acquisitions that have taken place – and there have been those too. Rather, I am referring to the fact that November 2015 marked the last time that the NTDA Tyre Wholesaler’s Group (TWG) are gathering for a standalone meeting and annual dinner in November. Instead, as chairman John Parker explained in his speech, the event will be reformatted and move to the day before the NTDA annual conference and Tyre Industry Awards in order to facilitate a more efficient use of everyone’s times and travelling abilities. In addition to updating members and guests on the latest developments from within the TWG, Tyres & Accessories was present to hear Parker give a wholesales-eye-view summary of what has been happening in the market, with part worn tyres and within the wider NTDA.

LE Jones, one of the largest independent haulage companies in Wales, has signed a fleet tyre agreement with Bridgestone. According to the tyre maker, the premium M729 regional tyre will be used predominantly on 25 units and 50 trailers along with the RS01 (front steers), which were seen as perfect products - in the correct sizes - for the company’s transportation work.

More than 400 exhibitors have already committed to next year’s Automechanika Birmingham, the first Automechanika event to take place in the UK, and more than 500 are expected to be on board by opening day. Initial plans to hold the exhibition in a single hall at the NEC have been ditched in favour of a three-hall arrangement that covers in excess of 21,000 square metres. Early visitor and exhibitor number forecasts have also been doubled.

The Road Haulage Association has restated the seriousness of the situation at Calais, France, where it says “growing numbers of migrants… are becoming increasingly frustrated that their efforts to gain access to UK-bound trucks are being thwarted.” While Calais has slipped from the headlines somewhat since its July peak, the RHA says the problems have not gone away. The association says the measures currently being taken are not enough to protect drivers. Two days ago Calais police said officers monitoring the 6000-strong camp near the Port were pelted with rocks as migrants repeatedly tried to block roads leading to the main ferry terminal.
