Fleet tyre management processes have been added to the recently announced “New Evolution” version of epyx’s 1link Service Network. According to the company, the move is the latest step in the redevelopment of the service, maintenance and repair (SMR) platform, used by operators totalling almost five million cars, vans and trucks.
Oliver Hummel has been named as the new European business development manager at service, maintenance, repair and tyre (SMRT) authorisation technology company 1link. He will be responsible for sales of the platform – delivered by Business Gateway GmbH – to major vehicle operators in mainland Europe. Hummel joins from Nokian Tyres, where he held both fleet and retail key account manager roles, and has also worked in senior positions at Bridgestone Europe and Michelin.
Tyres fitted to electric vehicles (EVs) face a shortfall in longevity versus those fitted to petrol or diesel cars, new fleet data from epyx suggests. The first tyre change for electric cars is taking place at an average of 17,985 miles and 551 days old, compared to 24,641 miles and 585 days for hybrids, and 24,335 and 670 days for petrol and diesel cars. On average tyres fitted to EVs are lasting 6,350 fewer miles than equivalents on internal combustion engine (ICE) powered vehicles. The data is taken from epyx’s 1link Service Network platform. Car and van fleets totalling more than four million vehicles use 1link to manage and process SMR.
Automotive sector technology solutions provider epyx has added tyres to its 1link Vehicle Network trading platform. It says “leading tyre distributors and manufacturers” have signed up and will provide products at “competitive prices”. According to epyx, the inclusion of tyres in 1link will enable dealers to provide fleets with a nationwide, fixed price tyre offering.
Halfords Autocentres proposed the relocation of its Head Office from Olton to the Halfords Group Head Office site in Redditch. The proposed move would see Halfords Autocentres Head Office staff join their Halfords Retail colleagues in Spring, 2012. It is anticipated that the majority of existing Autocentres Head Office staff will transfer to Redditch.
