Fresh veg delivered on time, thanks to Michelin
Vegetable grower, packer and distributor Huntapac Produce has renewed its Effitires by Michelin solutions contract for three years, trusting the tyre management package to help the family-run firm deliver excellent customer service – and fresh produce – all-year-round. The price-per-kilometre (PPK) deal covers 100 per cent of the company’s mixed fleet of 58 Iveco, Scania and Volvo tractor units, plus 63 refrigerated and 41 tipper trailers.

BEN, the automotive industry benevolence charity, is to close the Alexandra House care home in Southport. The closure is said to be due to the relative incompatibility of the building with the increasing frailty of residents and the infeasibility of improvements. The news was met with disappointment from sections of the tyre industry especially NTDA members in the North West, who have been particularly supportive of Alexandra House for decades. No decisions have yet been made about whether or not BEN will establise a replacement care home located in the North West or not.

Camso, the industrial tyre and track specialist formerly known as Camoplast Solideal, bought Southern Industrial Tyres in January 2016. Interestingly for the UK industrial tyre sector, Camso executives described the move as “a strategic effort to strengthen [the firm’s] material handling tyre distribution and service business in the UK”. In its statement on the matter Camso said the acquisition enhances Camsos leadership position in the UK and continues the companys vision for “tyre service”. No details of financial terms have been disclosed.

Goodyear Dunlop’s UK headquarters at Tyre Fort in Birmingham have been damaged by fire. According to West Midlands Fire Service, a fire broke out at the Wingfoot Way site yesterday evening and spread through the building’s ventilation system. Crews were called to the scene just after 7pm. The Fire Service announced shortly before midnight that the fire had been extinguished.
