
Continental stops production in some factories
Tyre maker and automotive technology company Continental has ceased production in some of its plants until further notice. It informed the Frankfurt Stock Exchange of measures put in place to adjust production around the world in response to the spread of the coronavirus and the effect of this upon vehicle production. Continental confirmed that its adjustments include complete production stops in some cases.

Michelin temporarily closes some European factories, car tyre demand down 9%
Michelin has confirmed that it has decided to close its tyre production facilities “located in the European countries most affected” countries for at least one week. Tyres & Accessories understands this means Michelin’s factories in Italy (Cuneo and Alessandria), Spain (Lasarte, Vitoria, Aranda de Duero and Valladolid) and France (Cataroux, Les Gravanches, Le Puy-en-Velay, Roanne, Bourges, Montceau, Cholet, La Roche-sur-Yon, Golbey, Avallon, Montagny, Vannes, Joué-Lès-Tours and Troyes

CSG renews two-year tyre contract with Bandvulc
Waste management group, CSG, has committed to a further two years with Bandvulc, the retread subsidiary of Continental. The decision takes the tyre management contract between the two companies into its seventh year, at a time when fleet numbers across CSG and sister company J&G have risen to close to 150 vehicles.

Hillhead 2020 postponed until 22-24 June 2021
Hillhead 2020 is postponed until 22-24 June 2021. The biannual show for the quarrying, construction, and recycling industries had been due to take place at Hillhead Quarry in Buxton, Derbyshire in June, but has been put back a year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This in turn has led the organiser to put back its complementary biannual show, Peterbrough’s Plantworx 2021, until June 2022.

Michelin wins back fuel tanker fleet policy within two years
Newton Abbot-based heating oil and fuel specialist Heltor has returned to a full Michelin tyre policy across its fleet of more than 50 commercial vehicles. Michelin states that the move comes less than two years after switching to a competing premium tyre brand. Following the move, Heltor closely monitored the performance of the new tyres against existing Michelin fitments within the fleet and was able to track the precise tyre cost per kilometre between the two brands.

First Line has recently introduced a replacement water pump with an electric valve to accommodate a range of VAG vehicles equipped with stop/start technology that have this specialised component fitted as standard. The pump, with the First Line reference FWP2352V, fits Audi A1, A3, A4, A5 and Q3, Seat Leon, Škoda Octavia, VW Passat, Golf, Tiguan and Transporter 1.6TD and 2.0TD 2012 applications.

Koelnmesse postpones The Tire Cologne until 2021
Koelnmesse has postponed The Tire Cologne 2020. The organiser of the largest tyre business show in the world came to the decision following what it calls “an in-depth consultation.” The postponement was made in agreement with the German Tyre Retail and Vulcanisation Trade Association (BRV), Koelnmesse’s partner for the event. Originally scheduled for 9-12 June 2020, the show is to be rearranged for 18-20 May, 2021.
