A team from Michelin’s research and development facility in Ladoux, France, has completed a UK trial to demonstrate how fitting tractors with tyres which can operate at very low pressures can save over 20 per cent in fuel costs. The team used a pair of Fendt tractors at Merrist Wood College in Guildford, Surrey before an audience of leading farmers, agronomists and tyre dealers.
Michelin have launched a dedicated farming website for the UK and Ireland. Michelin-agricultural-tyres.co.uk contains technical information for every size of tyre in Michelin’s extensive agricultural range. This includes recommended pressure settings and load ratings, available to download 24/7 at the click of a mouse or swipe of a finger.
Trelleborg has become first ever official sponsor of Italian magazine Trattori’s Tractor of the Year awards after signing a long-term agreement with the publication. Upon announcing the deal, Trattori editor Stefano Agnellini said “the choice of Trelleborg as our official sponsor of the awards was naturally driven by the key role which the company plays in the agricultural industry and its strong partnership with the leading tractor manufacturers. The partnership is also the result of the special attention Trelleborg has always given towards the real needs of farming professionals.”
Trelleborg is to be the first ever official sponsor of the Tractor of The Year awards, after signing a long-term agreement. Launched by Italian magazine Trattori in 1998, the awards scheme – now in its 16th year – celebrates innovation in tractor design and technology from the world’s leading manufacturers and agricultural machineries.
Trelleborg Group has inaugurated its latest new manufacturing facility in Xingtai, Hebei, China to manufacture high-performance specialty, primarily agricultural tyres.
According to the company, the latest undisclosed investment is part of Trelleborg’s continued long-term strategy to grow in markets with “favourable potential.” The site produces both radial and bias technology tyres for farming, forestry and agro-industrial applications in sizes ranging from 18 to 42 inches. The manufacturing output from the facility will reach 150,000 units over more than 200 tyre sizes by 2013. It will serve the needs of Trelleborg’s partners by providing local supply to their Chinese facilities, and just as importantly to local manufacturers.
Leading tyre and wheel supplier to the global agricultural industry, Trelleborg Wheel Systems showcased its extensive range of high performance tyres at Cereals 2012, held in Lincolnshire, England, on 13-14 June. Located on stand 602, sector E, the company exhibited its latest innovations for the agricultural industry as part of a new stand design and concept, the ‘Blue Box’.

Mitas Tyres Limited claims to offer the UK’s largest range of high-spec row-crop tyres, and the company showed the latest products from its range at Cereals 2012 together with Case IH. The company also provided visitors with advice on correct row-crop tyre selection.
Michelin will use the occasion of Cereals 2012 to exhibit its largest ever farm tyre; a new dimension in the AxioBib range designed for high horsepower tractors. The Michelin AxioBib IF 900/60 R 42 has a diameter of 2.15 metres and will be launched onto the UK replacement tyre market in July 2012. The flotation tyre, using the French manufacturer’s Improved Flexion technology, is suited to demanding crop farming operations such as ploughing, where farmers and contractors are increasingly utilising larger machines to plough fields faster.
Today, at the opening day of Reifen 2012 tyre show in Germany, Starco announced its entry into the tractor radial tyre market. The company describes its entry into this area, which centres on a new distribution agreement with the tyre manufacturer ATG, as “a move that breaks with the past and indicates the shape of things to come.” Under the agreement, Starco will now distribute ATG’s Galaxy tractor tyre range in Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Germany and the Benelux countries.
Mitas Tyres Ltd will exhibit two new tyres, the HC70 and AC70T, and the Continental SVT CHO (Cyclic Harvesting Operation) harvester tyre on its stand at Cereals 2012. The HC70 is an adaptable 70 series tyre designed for use on 90hp to 180hp tractors. The AC70T has deeper lugs, making it suitable for heavy field work. The show will take place at Boothby Graffoe, Lincolnshire on 13 and 14 June.
From humble beginnings on their father’s farm, Fritz and Rudi Schaad began the manufacture of what is now recognised as one of – if not the best – dual wheel systems on the market. Now, After 50 years in the business, Fritz Schaad has announced his retirement from daily management from the Swiss company, where he had been responsible for sales and marketing for many years. Despite his retirement Fritz will, along with brother Rudolph, continue to support the company, which has been part of the Starco Group for the last five years. Rudolph has announced plans to retire in 2014, and leadership of Starco Schaad is now in the hands of Sven Holmes, who has been who has been working at the Schaad factory for nine months in preparation for assuming responsibility of the company established by the Schaad brothers.
Trelleborg Wheel Systems has added two new sizes to its TM100 tyre range designed for row-crop applications – the 380/90R50 151A8 (151B) and 380/90R54 158A8 (158B). As a result the Trelleborg TM100 range is now available in 11 sizes from 32 to 54 inches.
DAF has selected Goodyear Marathon + low rolling resistance tyres for standard equipment on its latest Advanced Transport Efficiency (ATe) trucks. According to the tyre manufacturer, the news comes as a result of the partnership between the two companies aimed at providing vehicles with optimized fuel consumption, yet with no compromise on other performance areas.
