Bridgestone recalls 1900 car and light truck tyres in North America

Bridgestone Americas and Bridgestone Canada are recalling 1,923 Firestone Destination LE3 and Bridgestone Ecopia H/L 422 Plus replacement passenger and light truck tyres.

The recall centres on: 255/60 R19 Firestone Destination LE3 manufactured between 14 June 2020 and 18 July 2020 with DOT date codes 2420 – 2820 and press identification number E07L; Bridgestone Ecopia H/L 422 Plus tyres in size P255/60R19, manufactured between 12 July 2020 and 8 August 2020 with DOT date codes 2820 – 3120 and press identification number E07L.

According to filings lodged with the US motoring regulator NHTSA, ”may have been manufactured with a small pinhole in the upper sidewall of the outboard side of the tyre.” Bridgestone reports that, in rare instances, the pinhole may penetrate the tyre
inner liner and the tyre may slowly leak air. If a slow air loss is undetected or ignored, the continued loss of air may increase the risk of a vehicle crash or personal injury. There are no known accidents or injuries involving the tyres subject to the recall.

Launched in the US in June 2020, the Firestone Destination LE3 tyre is the latest offering in the company’s range of CUV, SUV and light truck tyres. Backed by a 70,000-mile limited warranty, the Firestone Destination LE3 is available in 66 sizes and reportedly has 87 per cent coverage of light trucks, SUVs, and CUVs on US roads.
