Corona & trade fairs: Tire Cologne organiser presents pilot exhibition hall

Date: 4th November 2020 Author: Stephen Goodchild Comments: 0
Koelnmesse has shown its safety measures – now it needs to convince exhibitors & visitors it’s safe to plan for a show

Trade fairs can be corona-safe. This is the message from Koelnmesse, organiser of The Tire Cologne, and to prove this it set up a model exhibition bristling with measures for keeping exhibitors and visitors healthy.

The #B-Safe4business Village occupies a floorspace of approximately 5,000 square metres in Hall 9 of the Koelnmesse exhibition centre in Cologne. The concept behind the village is based upon Germany’s ‘AHA+L+C’ rules for combating corona – social distancing, hygiene, face masks, ventilation and corona app.

Koelnmesse comments that these are “simple rules with a great effect” and notes that adherence to these rules presents a “major challenge” for organisers of trade fairs around the world. “With the # B-SAFE4business Village, Koelnmesse shows that events with several thousand participants from around the world are a possibility, and that the trade fair organiser is well prepared.”

Tracking visitors with electronic ticketing & apps

Koelnmesse’s strategy is to keep tabs of every attendee during their entire visit to the show. It will achieve this through the use of paperless ticketing as well as the newly-developed eGuard app that manages the flow of visitors to exhibitor stands in a way that enables social distancing even in constricted spaces. The organiser emphasises that exhibitors can also further increase their coverage by taking advantage of new event formats and digital technologies, and to this end is organising The Tire Cologne as a hybrid physical and digital show.

“The resumption of trade fair business is not only essential for Koelnmesse. The Tire Cologne, as a global communication platform for the international tyre and wheel industry, plays a crucial role in successfully restarting business in a post-corona period,” states the organiser. “The comprehensive #B-SAFE4business measures offer the best possible framework conditions for a safe personal exchange and thus the decisive impetus for a spirit of optimism.”

The Tire Cologne is scheduled to take place from 18 to 21 May 2021, both at the Koelnmesse site and online.
