Kumho covering eco/EV tyre segment with two products
The latest eco-friendly offering from Kumho is the Ecowing ES31. This successor to the KH27 is now available in a total of 46 sizes for 14- to 17-inch rim diameters, and around 70 percent of these carry an EU label grade of ‘B’ for rolling resistance. The sizes include all key fitments for bestselling small and medium-sized hatchbacks and saloons such as the VW Polo and Golf, Fiat 500, Audi A1, A2, A3 and A4, BMW 1 and 2 Series, Peugeot 208 and Renault Clio.
The ES31’s asymmetric pattern includes a quartet of wide drainage channels for optimum wet weather performance; a stiff centre rib for minimal rolling resistance; and aerodynamically designed shoulders for improved wind resistance that feature novel heat dissipation dimples on the inner flank.
Kumho Tire specifically designed the Kumho VS31 for use on the latest-technology electric vehicles entering the European market. The tyre is thus very light, weighing around 25 per cent less than a conventional tyre. It offers a combination of low rolling resistance and grippiness in the wet. The asymmetric pattern features a trio of wide drainage channels to minimise the possibility of aquaplaning on wet roads, a pair of firm central ribs for optimum rolling resistance and noise suppression, and open shoulder grooves to maximise handling and cornering performance.
With label grades of A/B, the VS31 has already won a German Red Dot Design award and an American Green Good Design accolade. It is currently available in two sizes, 195/65 R15 91H and 205/55 R16 91V.
