Toyo Open Country W/T Audi’s choice for all-season SUV performance
Toyo’s Open Country W/T tyre is Audi’s choice as OEM fitment on its flagship Q7 model, a fact that Toyo says proves its quality. The Japanese manufacturer designed the model as a highway winter tyre for SUVs, but says its compound and tread design also make it a capable all-rounder suitable for UK driving conditions during most of the year.
The tyre incorporates a newly developed silica compound, offering drivers excellent handling and performance on wet and snowy road surfaces – a facet augmented by its asymmetrical tread pattern. Toyo also claims that shorter braking distances can be achieved when compared to many other comparable tyres, particularly on ABS-equipped vehicles.
Three wide, straight grooves run around the circumference of the tyre, offering improved water expulsions characteristics, whilst lateral groves, with long biting edges give better traction in all conditions. Multi-wave sipes give stability on all surfaces and resist irregular wear more effectively over the life of the tyre.
The aforementioned thermo-elastic tread compound gives the tyre an operating temperature range of between -15 and 23 degrees Celsius, allowing the Open Country W/T to be used at its optimum performance levels for most of the year in UK weather conditions.
The Open Country W/T also features a high rim strip to protect the expensive alloys often found on vehicles of this type. Sitting well over most wheel designs, the hard rubber shoulder should deflect all but the most ardent of kerb-kisses, meaning that one set of wheels can be used all year around, should drivers opt to change rubber with the seasons.
The tyre is offered in T, H and V speed indices and in sizes from 15” to 20”.
