Formula One Drivers Show Support for ‘Make Cars Green’ Campaign

Date: 30th March 2009 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

Bridgestone Corporation says it will this year, as a global partner of the Fédération International de L’Automobile (FIA), continue its support and promotion of the global ‘Make Cars Green’ campaign. This announcement follows the first event of the 2009 Formula One season, the Australian Grand Prix, at which Bridgestone says the Formula One drivers showed their unanimous support for the campaign.

The Make Cars Green campaign aims to reduce the effect of cars on the environment by informing drivers of how to drive in a more environmentally friendly way. In partnership with automobile associations in countries worldwide, Bridgestone Corporation and the Bridgestone Group are calling on drivers to observe the “10 points for greener motoring”.

10 points for greener motoring

– Buy green
– Plan your journey
– Check tyre pressure frequently
– Reduce loads and avoid the need for roof racks
– Don’t warm up your engine before starting off
– Use air conditioning only when necessary
– Accelerate gently and keep your speed constant
– Use engine braking
– Don’t idle your engine
– Offset your CO2 emissions

Further details of the campaign can be found at the Bridgestone website http://www.bridgestone.co.jp/english/eco/project/makecarsgreen/.

Bridgestone will supply ‘Make Cars Green tyres’ to all teams at every race this season as the official tyre supplier of the Formula One World Championship. Through this action, Bridgestone Corporation aims to further spread the environmental campaign’s message. Bridgestone will supply to all Formula One Grand Prix events two types of dry tyre with different compounds and two types of wet weather tyre with different tread depths. In order to differentiate between the tyres within the two categories of tire, the softer dry tire and the heavy rain use wet tyre will be marked. Green lines will be marked on the sidewalls of the dry tyres, and in a central groove of the wet tyres.
