Motaquip Pick MAM

UK aftermarket parts supplier Motaquip has endorsed MAM’s Autopart software as the preferred business management solution it will recommend to its distributors. Motaquip was looking for an innovative product to recommend to new and existing distributors who are interested in upgrading their I.T. systems. “Motaquip has always been dedicated to developing long term partnerships and offering genuine support for businesses to grow and succeed” states Peter Cox, Motaquip National Sales Manager.
“After evaluating various management solutions, we unanimously agreed that MAM’s Autopart software would best suit the critical needs of our diverse customers,” he continued.

Micheldever Refits Tavistock Tyres with Pro-Align’s Equipment

One of Micheldever’s newest acquisitions, Tavistock Tyres in Devon, has undergone an extensive refurbishment programme, including the replacement of equipment. According to those involved, the aim from the outset was to fit out the workshop to a very highest standard, achieve the optimum in customer service and efficiency/revenue generation. In order to achieve this, Micheldever selected key equipment from Pro-Align’s ‘world leading’ Hunter equipment range. The improvements and reorganisation at Tavistock Tyres, has meant they have now been able to create a new dedicated alignment bay, headed by the Hunter Imaging Alignment System.

Aftersoft Gets New Financing Deal

Chester based Aftersoft Group Inc., which supplies business software to the automotive aftermarket, has successfully completed a revolving credit and term loan agreement with ComVest Capital LLC, raising US$6 million in funds for working capital and other general corporate purposes.

Ian Warwick, Aftersoft’s chairman and CEO, said “we have successfully completed a complex financing agreement in a difficult market environment, which reflects the value, stability and growth potential of Aftersoft’s diverse businesses in the automotive aftermarket. Our management team can now turn its full attention to building those businesses, with the ultimate goal of duplicating in the US and other markets the growth and success we have achieved in the UK. In addition, we can now accelerate our efforts to complete the spin-off of Aftersoft from Auto Data Network.” (Tire Review/Akron)

Bandag Releases Updated Aspects Software

Bandag EMEA first launched its Aspects fleet inspection program at Reifen Essen 2006. Since then a growing number of Bandag Dealers and Eurofleet partners have begun using Aspects to demonstrate potential savings on fleets’ tyre budgets. Based upon input from these initial users a new version of Aspects is now available.

Major improvements in the areas of technological development and user friendliness have been made in relation to reporting and data integrity, states Bandag, who claims Aspects provides clear reporting on all aspects of tyre maintenance and fleet tyre policy implementation, as well as indicating the best opportunities for savings on a fleet’s total tyre budget. Using the program’s Out of Service Tyre Analysis module, the root causes of eventual tyre damage and reasons for pulling tyres prematurely can be analysed and reported.

Beru TPMS Offers WRC Tyre Mousse Alternative

Twenty years on from the introduction of mousse-equipped tyres in the WRC, the technology that allows drivers to continue to the end of the stage is to be banned for 2008. However Beru F1 Systems is taking capitalising on the fact that there are no rules against early warning tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS).

“The mousse ban means drivers need reliable information about tyre condition and performance to prevent damage to the car,” says Beru F1 Systems’ managing director John Bailey. “Digi Tyre could give them warning about potential safety issues or whether changing the wheel is the best solution.”

Snap-on Sells 1000th Modis

Snap-on Tools has sold its 1,000th flagship Modis hand-held diagnostic tool in the UK to James Gibb, the diagnostic technician at Beauley Motor Services of Southville. To celebrate the UK brand leader in diagnostic tools, software and information for the automotive market, made a special presentation of a Snap-on Tools voucher. Introduced in 2003, the Modis is aimed at providing a complete diagnostic solution to any UK garage or bodyshop. It reportedly continues to be in demand as the UK garage trade “realises the benefits to be gained from upgrading to top-of-the-range hand-held diagnostic tools.”

Growth For MAM Software in First Half

MAM Software has announced that business remained buoyant in the first half of 2007 as the company sustained its solid growth rate of recent years. Despite increasing market saturation, product enhancements and innovations created additional interest that has helped MAM to win new business, says the company.

Key factors aiding the growth of MAM’s business include technological advances in electronic cataloguing, the introduction of online sales applications and the development of new products for vertical markets. Current applications have also been enhanced with new features and functionality, which has motivated users to update their existing technology.

“The UK aftermarket is nearing saturation as most factors and retailers now use some form of I.T. to manage their business” explained Mike Jamieson, MAM’s Managing Director. “Despite this, we’ve been able to achieve solid growth by winning business from our competitors and increasing revenue through innovation and diversification.

Vauxhall MasterFit Centres Of Excellence Awards

Vauxhall MasterFit is launching a Centre of Excellence Award to recognise the achievements of the top 10 per cent of Vauxhall MasterFit centres across the UK. The awards programme will be an annual event, with the top 40 centres earning the right to display a “Service Centre of Excellence” plaque on their premises.

A set of 10 simplified standards is being introduced by Vauxhall to measure competence in three key areas – convenience, value and expertise. Vauxhall says that these parameters generate customer satisfaction, service retention and business growth.

The Vauxhall MasterFit customer promise aims at ensuring convenience for customers throughout the “MasterFit experience”, professional advice on what work is essential and what is desirable and value for customers assured by a monthly local price check carried out by each centre. Alongside this are transparent pricing and invoicing, the use of the latest diagnostic equipment and free of charge vehicle and software enhancements as they enter the manufacturer’s database.

India’s Tata Looks at Jaguar, Land Rover

(Akron/Tire Review) News reports confirm that Indian automaker Tata Motors is interested in acquiring iconic British auto companies Land Rover and Jaguar, which Ford Motor Co. has put up for sale.

Tata Chairman Ratan Tata told media that his company, a conglomerate active in the steel, software and automobile arenas, plans to place a bid for the two luxury brands, which Ford is auctioning. Several US equity firms have also expressed interest.

Most of Tata’s vehicle experience comes from making work trucks in India, and has only been producing passenger cars for about a decade. Most of its car activity has been in the low-end market, and the company has announced plans to offer an “ultra-cheap” car that would retail for about $2,400.

ASA Tire Systems Names VP

Briggs will be responsible for customer service, including software and hardware support, implementation and network services, all accounting functions, and business operations. She was formerly with ASA International Ltd.

Visitors to May’s Brityrex exhibition and the CV show were amongst the first in the UK to be given a first hand demonstration of the latest wheel balancer on offer from Apaseal – the Corghi EM7440. This product from the renowned Italian firm features an ergonomic design and a wide flat surface area, which Apaseal claims is ideal for accommodating any required weights and accessories. The unit’s adjustable display utilises on-screen piezoelectric touch sensitive technology, allowing for user-friendly operation and eliminating the need for a keyboard that would take up workspace otherwise put to better use.

The EM7440 has a 40mm diameter shaft that extends from the balancer across the distance of the flange face. The shaft can carry a maximum load of 75kg even without the unit being affixed to the ground. Balancing speeds start from a low launch speed of 70rpm, with 85 and 98rpm also available. The low balancing speed minimises wheel spin times, thereby saving energy and reducing strain on rotating components. Rim diameters up to 30 inches and widths of up to 20 inches can be accommodated.

ASA Offers Updated TireMaster Software

(Akron/Tire Review) ASA Tire Systems has issued Version 7.4.0 of its TireMaster software. ASA said the new version of its tyre dealer POS software provides increased functionality, including a “promised time” indicator, global comments for quotes, and a tyre casings/parts core tracking system. ASA said that current TireMaster users with an Internet connection can receive the update immediately.

Mark Goin, ASA Tire Systems director of sales and marketing, said: “The new promised time indicator will be a great tool to manage a shop’s busy workload. This feature allows tyre dealers to set a ‘promised time’ for each job. If the job takes longer than expected, they will know to contact the customer immediately. This new element improves customer service, while helping to manage a tyre dealer’s daily workload.”

In addition, the casing/core tracking system, he said, allows dealers to track casings sent to a retreader, record cost information and data about repairs and service life.

Profitable Vibration Problems Overlooked

Vibration problems are one of the most difficult problems to solve and because of this, they often gets the ‘head in the sand’ treatment. The NTDA has recognised this and has highlighted the vibration issue in their recent Service Bulletin 06/07 (copies are available from the NTDA offices)

In the past, to solve a vibration problem that balancing alone does not fix, it has been done through a process of elimination/ trial and error. This can be very time consuming and more often than not a vibration problem still persists.

ASA Names New TireMaster Director of Sales, Marketing

(Akron/Tire Review) ASA Tire Systems, a provider of software for the tyre industry, has appointed Mark Goin director of sales and marketing for TireMaster. Goin has more than 20 years of experience managing sales, collections, and service for call centere. Most recently, he held a director position for Capital One, according to ASA.

“The combination of his experience in call centre management and ability to focus on performance metrics and customer satisfaction will help to bring our TireMaster product to the small dealer masses,” said Dave Duchesne, vice president of sales for ASA.

Bridgestone Reports Best Ever CV Show

Bridgestone UK is reporting that its stand at the CV Show this year was its busiest to date with over 500 visits from new and existing fleet customers and partners, and over 60 new leads obtained. The company has had a strong start to the year with a number of new fleet gains including DHL Tradeteam Primary, Dawson Rentals, Collease, Tuffnells Trailer Fleet and AAH Pharmaceuticals to name but a few. Bridgestone’s presence at this year’s show allowed new and existing fleet partners to view the company’s latest products and technologies.

Bridgestone presented its complete range of new generation tyres at this year’s show encompassing the R249 and R168, as well as their most recent addition to the family, the M749. The company also introduced its Tyre Inspection Module, a state-of-the-art tyre management software package which allows dealers to operate fast and efficient fleet checks, to monitor and report on tyre condition, and help raise tyre performance in fleets.
