
Bridgestone makes NHL ice hockey star its Swedish product ambassador
Bridgestone has announced Swedish NHL hockey star Alexander Steen of St Louis Blues as its Swedish product ambassador at a showcase for the manufacturer’s new studded Noranza 001 winter tyre. The Noranza 001 has been developed to perform on icy surfaces, following intensive customer research before the tyre was manufactured. The event, hosted at The Ice Bra, Stockholm, included a detailed presentation on the Noranza from Bridgestone Sweden’s sales manager Fredrik Adlerstam.

Close Brothers Motor Finance raise £13k for Great Ormond Street
Close Brothers Motor Finance employees have raised £12,898.47 for Great Ormond Street Hospital through a series of charity events. In a bid to raise money for the charity, employees from the business took part in a range of fundraising initiatives, including a 1,300 mile cycling challenge between all of Close Brothers Motor Finance’s offices. This cycling event saw John Murphy, account manager at the Sheffield branch, covering the longest distance (140 miles).

IAA premiere for Conti EfficientPro
Continental will introduce its new Conti EfficientPro steer and drive axle tyres at next week’s IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Germany. This new, rolling resistance optimised range, specifically developed for long-distance motorway transport, draws upon the technologies already used in Continental’s EcoPlus tyre series. All Conti EfficientPro fitments have been given an EU tyre label rating of ‘A’ for fuel efficiency.

European debut for Dunlop Elite 4
Dunlop has launched its successor to the Elite 3 motorcycle tyre line in Europe, and claims higher mileage potential from this all-new product, the Elite 4. The range, which is available in both radial and cross-ply constructions, includes four rear sizes that feature Dunlop’s Multi-Tread (MT) technology and seven front tyres – a size line up intended to offer fitments for a large variety of cruiser and touring models.

Giti Tire launches Giti PCR brand in Germany, debut at Automechanika Frankfurt
Following up the European launch of Giti branded truck tyres at Reifen 2016, Giti Tire has now launched a new flagship Giti branded passenger car and SUV summer portfolio for the German market. The range, which consists of four “premium performance” tyres, has been developed and tested exclusively throughout Europe by the company’s Hannover-based R&D Centre. Giti stated that there were “no plans to replace the GT Radial brand”, previously positioned as its global flagship, in Europe when the commercial range was launched. According to the manufacturer, this remains the case, with the Giti PCR range designed to complement its existing GT Radial, Primewell and Runway brands; Giti will offer selected sizes aimed at specific vehicle segments.

Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) has reported increased sales and volumes and significantly higher net income in the first quarter of its 2017 financial year. The Indian manufacturer sold 41,456 tonnes of tyres during the three months to 30 June 2016, an amount representing year-on-year growth of 11 per cent. Net sales were up 7.0 per cent to Rs 9.1 billion (£102.2 million). EBITDA jumped 136 per cent to Rs 2.6 billion (£29.2 million), with the margin growing from 12.8 per cent in the corresponding quarter of the previous year to 28.0 per cent in the reporting period. Net profit rose 46.6 per cent to Rs 1.5 billion (£16.7 million).

Bridgestone plants receive GM supplier awards
The Tosu and Hikone plants – two of the ten tyre factories that Bridgestone operates in Japan – have received 2015 Supplier Quality Excellence Awards from the General Motors Company. The vehicle manufacturer officially handed Bridgestone the awards at a ceremony held at the Tosu plant on 18 August. This is the first time that the two plants have received a GM Supplier Quality Excellence Award.
