Court appearance for man accused of £100k Pirelli tyre theft
A man accused of selling more than £100,000 worth of stolen Pirelli tyres appeared in Carlisle Crown Court yesterday to answer a charge of conspiracy to commit theft. Barry White was charged in January along with Mark Claxton and Graham Wait, and has pleaded not guilty.

TyreClick, a website developed by Micheldever Tyre Services Ltd to help independent dealers compete online, achieved 30,000 orders at the start of July. TyreClick currently supports almost 950 transactional websites that are linked to independent tyre retailers, each with their own local URL, thereby allowing motorists to search for their local dealers and buy tyres direct from them.

Britain’s largest energy provider, British Gas, plans to fit Michelin CrossClimate tyres to its fleet of 13,000 commercial vehicles. It will ask OEMs to supply CrossClimate tyres on its new vehicles where possible, and all replacement tyres will be fitted by ATS Euromaster.

Sue Robinson, the association’s director, said she is “encouraged by the continued growth”, commenting on figures published by ACEA. Scrabster-based D Steven & Son, which also has depots in Wick, Aberdeen and Glasgow, specifies Michelin’s latest generation 315/80 R 22.5 X MultiWay 3D tyres on its prime movers – all of which are under three years old – claiming the fitments ensure mobility in extreme wet weather and snowy conditions.

According to a white paper issued by the Institute of Advanced Motorists’ (IAM) Drive and Survive division, drivers who cover high mileages are the category of road user most likely to think speed cameras have ‘little or no influence’ in reducing road casualty numbers in the UK. The paper, titled Speed Cameras – The Views of High Mileage Drivers, also found 28 per cent of high-mileage drivers have a negative view of speed cameras – ten per cent more than other drivers. More than half the high-mileage drivers surveyed for the paper also viewed speed cameras as little more than a ‘money making tool’ – more than another category of road user.
