China Automotive award for Sailun EcoPoint3

China’s state broadcaster CCTV presented the fourth annual China Automotive Festival on 28 January. The event at Beijing National Stadium included an awards ceremony honouring the best from domestic and international manufacturers, and amongst the recipients was Sailun Group, which won the Jury’s Choice Award for its EcoPoint3 technology. Mrs Liu Yanhua, chairwoman of Sailun Group, accepted the award on behalf of the tyre maker.
EcoPoint3 is a compounding technology that overcomes the tyre industry’s ‘magic triangle’ conflict, reducing rolling resistance while simultaneously enhancing wet grip performance and wear resistance. Sailun Group states that this breakthrough has led to an “unprecedented leap” in the overall performance of its tyres.
The manufacturer quotes test data that shows tyres using EcoPoint3 can reduce an ICE vehicle’s fuel consumption by eight per cent, saving approximately 0.6 litres per 100 kilometres. The saving for electric vehicles is 12 per cent energy per 100 kilometres, extending the range by 40-60 kilometres on a single charge.
Sailun adds that when braking at a speed of 80 km/h, EcoPoint3 can shorten braking distance in the wet by seven metres compared to regular tyres. Wear resistance is 20 to 30 per cent better, and tyre noise decreases by 1-2 decibels.
In addition to the Jury’s Choice award, the China Automotive Festival presented awards for the Annual Influential Vehicle, Top Three Vehicles of the Year, and Top Ten Individuals. Additionally, the organisers announced winners of new awards introduced for 2023, such as Annual Leading Figure in Overseas Markets, Annual Innovative Technology Team, Annual Vanguard Design Team, and others. A total of 18 vehicle models from 24 automotive companies, along with four technologies, one software application, an individual and two teams, were honoured with awards.
