Galgo Pre-Q gains US SmartWay accreditation

Date: 23rd September 2013 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

Mexican retreading materials supplier Galgo Group recently gained US SmartWay accreditation for one of its Pre-Q products. According to the company, Galgo has always shared the global vision to meet the highest quality standards in each market “And once again we achieved it with our United States Corporate ‘PREQ Galgo’”, company representatives said in a statement announcing the news.

SmartWay is a US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) programme intended to verify the low rolling resistance performance of products. Galgo gained the accreditation for its TA tread profile, for use on Line-haul class-8 trailer axle. According to the company, this product line meets the requirements of the SmartWay Technology Program, which means it must demonstrate it can help reduce truck fuel consumption by at least 3 per cent, according to EPA measurements. This programme complies with California Air Resources Board (CARB), another environmental program, as well.

Galgo reports that its TA profile has distinct features compared with conventional treads such as “advanced fuel-efficient cool-running” compounds which are designed to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. As far as presentation is concerned, this green ethos is demonstrated with a distinctive green line running along all the way of the tread pattern which is deep enough to last until the tread is worn out. The TA profile is available as a pre-cure tread in the following widths: 194, 203, 220 and 230 mm. (7 5/8, 8, 8 5/8 and 9-inch).

“PREQ Galgo has been always committed to the environment and now we have the opportunity to help customers reduce fleet operating costs by saving fuel. For PREQ Galgo it is very important the long-term commercial strategy, since we are a 60 years old company and we will continue to submit treads for approval,” company representatives commented in response to the news.

The news means Galgo’s tread joins the ranks of Bandag, Bridgestone and Marangoni products that have already been SmartWay accredited.
