
More than a million: Rosava achieves European export record
A first for Rosava – the Ukrainian tyre maker reports having shipped more than a million tyres to European markets within the space of a year. During the first ten months of 2021 it sold more than a million Remiorri and Rosava passenger vehicle tyres, 150 per cent more than during the same period of 2020. The tyre maker also added two European countries – Cyprus and Portugal – to its supply map this year.

Discount Tire buys Tire Rack
Discount Tire, a leading independent tyre and wheel retailer in the US is acquiring Tire Rack, which is known for its tyre tests and is a “consumer-direct source for tyres, wheels and performance accessories”. According to the company, the investment is part of Discount Tire’s vision of creating an “Easy, and Safe omnichannel, B2B, and fleet customer experience”. The transaction is expected to close on 31 December 2021.

Bridgestone closing truck tyre plant in China
As part of the global footprint restructuring announced as part of its Mid Term Business Plan (2021-2023), Bridgestone Corporation is shutting one of the two truck tyre plants it currently operates in China. It will close the Bridgestone (Huizhou) Tire Co., Ltd. (BSHZ) facility by the end of 2021, consolidating its manufacturing footprint into the Bridgestone (Shenyang) Tire Co., Ltd. (BSSY) plant.

Car registrations up 1.7%, battery EV uptake doubles
New car registrations grew 1.7 per cent year-on-year in November, bringing an end to four months of consecutive decline, with the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reporting 115,706 units registered. However, this must be viewed in the context of a weak 2020, when lockdowns impacted registrations, including November. Compared to the pre-pandemic average, the market remains down significantly, with 31.3 per cent fewer vehicles registered during the month.

Bridgestone sells tennis ball company
Another company within Bridgestone Corporation’s Diversified Products business will soon have a new owner. Bridgestone Sport Co., Ltd. (BSP) is selling all its stock in Bridgestone Tecnifibre Co., Ltd. (BSTF), a Thailand-based manufacturer and seller of tennis balls, to Japanese sport equipment company Yonex Co., Ltd. BSP withdrew from the tennis goods business at the end of 2020.
