Solideal Taps Trelleborg Exec as New CEO
(Akron/Tire Review) Paul Gaines has been named CEO of Solideal Tire Inc. USA, the Charlotte, North Carolina-based industrial and specialty tyremaker. Gaines had been managing director of Trelleborg Wheel Systems. Gaines succeeds Baldwin Hickey and Thom Harris, who have served as co-CEOs. They were assigned to other executive positions within the company, Solideal said.

Viking International has named the winners of its Millennium competition. The Ultra High Performance Millennium tyre range, launched at the beginning of the year, was introduced alongside an exclusive competition for Viking’s business development staff, with the chance to win vouchers towards an exotic holiday destination of their choice. First prize went to David Le Tall for exceptional sales results, closely followed by runner up, Steve Cockburn. They were presented with their holiday vouchers at the end of March by John Kemp, managing director for Viking International.

Staff from three First Stop dealerships have been treated to a VIP tour of one of Bridgestone’s major tyre manufacturing plants in France as part of a campaign to further increase knowledge within the network. Representatives from Airway Tyres in Colchester, and the Lodge Tyres depots in both Walsall and Talke, near Stoke, were given a guided tour of the factory in Béthune, northern France. They received an in-depth insight into the whole tyre manufacturing process, from the combination of natural and synthetic rubber all the way through to the detailed and thorough quality control of the final product.

Following the successful launch of the company’s Aldershot branch, Just Tyres has now opened its first outlet in Cambridgeshire. The Huntingdon branch opened its doors on Good Friday, and is already reporting buoyant sales. Being new to the area, Just Tyres has been very active promoting the business focusing mainly on its transparent pricing policy and promise to sell nothing but tyres to customers. A major investment has been made in Goodyear Dunlops new truck tyre service provider network for the road transport industry. TruckForce focuses on the commercial vehicle and bus market with planned, preventative tyre maintenance and on-site service with each region having a central TruckForce hub with a network of satellite service points and stock holding locations supporting these.

(Akron/Tire Review) Amtel-Vredestein NV says it will invest another $124 million to expand its Voronezh, Russia, tyre plant. The Voronezh II project, previously announced, will see a state-of-the-art tyre plant built on the grounds of Amtel-Vredestein’s existing Voronezh facility. The new plant will produce some 2.5 million Amtel and Vredestein branded tires annually, and could be expanded to 4.1 million tyres. According to this agreement Amtel-Vredestein will invest $124 million into its new Voronezh-II production facilities. Within this project, state-of-the-art facilities will be built which will produce 2.5 million tyres annually, with a possibility for further expansion to 4.1 million tires per year. Production is set to start in September 2008.

Joining Ishibashi in the class of 2006 are vehicle designer Nuccio Bertone, race driver Dale Earnhardt, NASCAR chief Bill France Jr., AutoNation founder Wayne Huizenga, former Ford president Arjay Miller and designer Bruno Sacco.
