ConnecTire from Trelleborg bringing data sharing to agricultural wheels
Trelleborg has announced it will launch a smart wheel “designed to produce more, with less” at next month’s Agritechnica trade fair. Called ConnecTire, the new product is a sensor-based smart wheel that enables data sharing at multiple levels, reducing the risk of tyre slippage on the rim. It allows farmers to leverage the Internet of Things for safer and more efficient operations.

The latest “premium tyre for the top tractor segment” from Vredestein will be launched at next month’s Agritechnica show. Apollo Vredestein hasn’t revealed what its new product is called, however it shares that the tyre is based on “ever-improving” VF (Very High Flexion) technology, and that its development drew upon on extensive research into the needs of tractor manufacturers and end users. The result, the tyre maker states, is a VF tyre that “sets higher standards in the market.”

Reporting its performance during the third quarter of 2017 and the first nine months of the current financial year, Michelin has announced net sales of 5.34 billion euros for the three months to 30 September 2017. This result represents a 3.0 per cent year-on-year increase in net sales and includes a favourable 5.0 per cent price-mix effect and 1.0 per cent growth in volumes.

Tyre fitting has been added to the range of services offered by eBay Motors in the USA. As of this week, shoppers in the US who purchase tyres on eBay can opt to have them shipped to a local installation location at no additional cost. Installation can currently be performed at 9,000 sites across the country, and eBay says tyre inventory spans across all major brands.

Yesterday, the High Level Group (HLG) GEAR 2030 issued its report on the competitiveness and sustainable growth of the automotive industry in the EU and offered recommendations on how the automotive industry can anticipate and adapt to current trends, specifically identifying two fields – zero emission and zero emission-capable vehicles (ZEVs and ZECs), as well as connected and automated driving (CAD). The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) welcomes the adoption of the HLG report; in a statement, the association shares that it views the reports as constituting “a stepping stone for all stakeholders.”
