Goodyear Plans to Sell Park Area
(Akron/Tire Review) The Akron Beacon Journal reported that Goodyear has put its Wingfoot Lake park near Akron up for sale. The area includes a 522-acre lake and 150-acre recreational park in Suffield Township, Ohio.
MRF to expand capacity at three locations
India’s largest tyremaker, MRF, recently outlined its plans for expansion at three of its factories. The expansion is estimated to cost somewhere between £58 and 70 million, and will be implemented over a period of two years.
Jeep Trailhawk Sports Concept Rubber
The Jeep Trailhawk concept vehicle displayed at this year’s Detroit auto show has given Goodyear a golden opportunity to display its own concept products. The hefty-looking Trailhawk sits upon specially crafted tyres and large five-spoke 22-inch wheels. The total combined diameter of the wheel and tyre is a massive 34 inches.
Straight Set to Apollo
Indian tyremaker Apollo Tyres has reaffirmed its commitment to the development of professional tennis in its homeland by signing up a doubles team to compete in the 2007 ATP and Grand Slam Tours. The two players are top Indian player Mahesh Bhupathi and the Czech Republic’s Radek Stepanek.
Michelin Announces Price Rise
Michelin has stated that it will increase the price of its European market motorcycle tyres.
Increases will range between 2 and 4 per cent, depending on the segment and country, and will come into effect during the first half of 2007.
Cooper Tire Subsidiary Introduces New Application Tread
Cooper Tire and subsidiary Oliver Rubber Company have introduced their latest speciality application tread – the APWs.
The new APWs tread is designed for 70 per cent on-road and 30 per-cent off-road applications. It uses a compound known as Tri-Cor, and features a large and reportedly ‘aggressive’ tread pattern that features three circumferential self-cleaning grooves, which are designed to help make the product durable even when subject to high mileages.

The NEC in Birmingham will be brimming with nostalgia and the spell of Le Mans on 13 & 14 January as one of the most significant displays of Le Mans cars ever assembled will be reunited with their legendary drivers, at Autosport International. The Le Mans feature, in association with BEN and Motor Sport magazine, will reunite the famous drivers with their famous cars, tracing the history of this near-mythical race from its very beginnings in 1923.
Goodyear Receives Credit Thumbs Up
Moody’s Investors Service has revised its rating for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. from negative to stable following the signing of the new three-year USW contract. This move comes days after Standard & Poors upgraded Goodyear to a B+ rating.
In a statement, a representative of the investment service said “Moody’s would expect the company over time to achieve significant efficiencies from the new contract and other restructuring actions.” Given Goodyear’s stable outlook it is unlikely that their rating will be lowered again during the next 12 to 18 months.
New MD For Mahle
Automotive filter and engine component supplier Mahle Filter Systems UK has appointed Phil Everitt as its new managing director. Everitt has been finance director of the company since 2002 and has over 25 years’ experience in the automotive sector, holding senior positions with TRW/Lucas and Rover.
He succeeds Ian Stanworth, who is taking early retirement after a career spanning 35 years in the automotive aftermarket, the last five of which were as Mahle’s MD
Accuride to Invest in New Equipment
Wheel and component manufacturer Accuride Corporation have announced it is investing approximately US$25 million in its aluminium wheel business. This capital will be used to purchase two state-of-the-art hydraulic presses and for upgrading other facilities and equipment.

Maha UK Launches New Range of Low Cost Brake Testers
With the introduction of one man testing and Automatic Test Lanes, MAHA have produced a new range of brake testers to meet all MOT, ATL and any foreseen future requirements that may be introduced.
The basic MAHA IW 2 LON Brake Tester is approved for MOT testing for both classes IV and VII. The MAHA IW 2 LON basic brake tester is a modular system and can be manufactured to customer’s specifications. To update the basic IW 2 LON for AT specification will only require the addition of a weighting system and a PC.
Kwik-Fit Appoints Phil Preece To Head Insurance-Related Business
Kwik-Fit Fleet has appointed Phil Preece to take charge of its relationships with vehicle insurance companies and bodyshops following the end-of-year retirement of Peter Melville. As business development manager for the insurance/bodyshop sector Mr Preece, who has been Kwik-Fit Fleet’s area sales manager for the Midlands for the past nine years, will be responsible for establishing new and developing already existing business relationships with all major motor insurers.
