Upcoming regulations such as those foreseen in the EC Directive on motor vehicles ( 70/156/EEC ) mean changes for the approximately 120,000 employees in tuning industry businesses across Europe. While they may be of benefit to the industry, the potential for legislative hampering of the industry also exists.
(Akron/Tire Review) The Akron Beacon Journal reported that Goodyear has put its Wingfoot Lake park near Akron up for sale. The area includes a 522-acre lake and 150-acre recreational park in Suffield Township, Ohio.

Cooper Tire and subsidiary Oliver Rubber Company have introduced their latest speciality application tread – the APWs.
The new APWs tread is designed for 70 per cent on-road and 30 per-cent off-road applications. It uses a compound known as Tri-Cor, and features a large and reportedly ‘aggressive’ tread pattern that features three circumferential self-cleaning grooves, which are designed to help make the product durable even when subject to high mileages.

Moody’s Investors Service has revised its rating for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. from negative to stable following the signing of the new three-year USW contract. This move comes days after Standard & Poors upgraded Goodyear to a B+ rating.
In a statement, a representative of the investment service said “Moody’s would expect the company over time to achieve significant efficiencies from the new contract and other restructuring actions.” Given Goodyear’s stable outlook it is unlikely that their rating will be lowered again during the next 12 to 18 months.
Automotive filter and engine component supplier Mahle Filter Systems UK has appointed Phil Everitt as its new managing director. Everitt has been finance director of the company since 2002 and has over 25 years’ experience in the automotive sector, holding senior positions with TRW/Lucas and Rover.
