Following extensive development testing at its world headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire, machinery manufacturer JCB has chosen Michelin’s Power CL as an original equipment fitment on its latest 2CX, 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. The selection of the Power CL is in addition to the Michelin XMCL which is already the OE radial option.
Bridgestone’s soft tyre took Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel to the fastest lap of the sinuous Suzuka Circuit on the first day of the Japanese Grand Prix today. The German set a 1:31.465 lap time in the afternoon session after earlier setting the fastest time with the hard tyre in the morning. Bridgestone director of Motorsport Tyre Development, Hirohide Hamashima said that both compounds for the race were looking “strong”, but that wet tyres would also come into play at some point over the weekend.
This year the China International Tire Expo – CITExpo for short – once again broke records. The show’s organiser states that the three-day exhibition was visited by more than 7,400 tyre experts. Last year Reliable International Exhibition Services registered the attendance of 6,320 visitors, which means that this year’s CITExpo, the eighth held, enjoyed 17 per cent visitor growth. This year’s numbers also well exceeded the show held in 2008 – before the global crisis – for which only 6,860 visitors made their way to the Shanghai Everbright Convention & Exhibition Center. At this year’s show, 60 per cent of visitors came from various regions throughout China, and the remaining 40 per cent from 92 countries around the world.
The BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team has clinched the 2010 American Le Mans Series (ALMS) GT Manufacturer and Team Championships, a feat that was helped by Dunlop, which provided the grip for its BMW M3 GT2. The team’s fourth place finish at the final round last week was enough to score the points needed to stay ahead of Ferrari and Porsche in the Manufacturers Championship by a point. Most racing observers considered the GT segment to be the most competitive class in the ALMS during 2010, with teams from BMW, Ferrari, Porsche and Corvette battling it out, and each winning a race this year.
David Ashburn claimed the 2010 Avon Tyres British GT Championship title at the penultimate round of the series at Brands Hatch in Kent last weekend. The 63-year-old and his Trackspeed Porsche teammate, Glynn Geddie, collected a win and a fifth place in the weekend’s pair of hour-long races and enough points to put the overall title beyond the reach of anyone but Ashburn.
A planned fourth factory is expected to increase Balkrishna Industries’ tyre making capacity by 73 per cent. Indian media sources report the tyre maker plans to establish a new facility in Bhuj, Gujarat state, by the third quarter of the 2013 fiscal year.
A concerted focus on helping businesses reduce operating costs and improve efficiency has helped Kwik-Fit Fleet secure a third award for 2010, this time from industry publication Fleet Van. At the Fleet Van Awards 2010 ceremony, held in London on October 6, the fast-fit provider was confirmed as this year’s Van Service and Repair Company of the Year. The latest gong to come Kwik-Fit Fleet’s way joins accolades earned in the BusinessCar Awards and from LeasePlan UK earlier in the year.
The latest phase in Pirelli’s Formula One tyre pre-season test programme has taken driver Pedro de la Rosa back to his homeland and the Valencia circuit in order to engage in wet conditions testing. The days spent evaluating the F1 PZero tyres in eastern Spain were the first in which de la Rosa drove for Pirelli, and during a two-day period he covered just over 650 kilometres in the Toyota TF109 test vehicle.

An important personnel change took place at Pirelli Tyres Ltd on October 1, namely Chris Evans’ appointment to the position of director of Truck Business, UK. In his new role, Evans will report directly to national managing director Dominic Sandivasci and functionally to the company’s headquarters in Milan.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Korea Management Association has ranked Kumho Tires top in the passenger car tyre category of its Korea Customer Satisfaction Index (KCSI) survey. The index is calculated based on customer evaluations of a number of variables, including overall satisfaction, factor satisfaction and repurchase intent. Kumho Tires’ score of 67.7 secured it first place, and the tyre maker highlights that its score in the repurchase intention category was 11.1 per cent higher than any competing company – evidence, Kumho says, of a “green light” for expanding domestic market share.

In introducing Marvin Bozarth, who will hold the position during the current period of ‘transition’, TRIB president Michael Berra Jr borrowed a line from a Brodsky speech and stated “there is never a wrong time to do the right thing.”
Devon-based hazardous liquid waste management specialist the Bale Group has selected Bandvulc’s product range for its tyre policy. On the basis of in-house drive and trailer axle position trials carried out by Bale, the company chose the Bandvulc produce as the most cost effective option for its operation; Bandvulc’s BD08 drive axle and B2K trailer tyres have been selected as the preferred policy fitment, supported by Continental HSR2 tyres on all steer and lift axles.
An October global launch is planned for the latest size in Michelin’s MegaXBib range. The new 800/70R32 tyre, intended for large and heavy harvesting machines, comes with a 181 A8/B load rating. Michelin states this load rating is the highest of any tyre produced using conventional technology and thus offers a higher rating than any currently available tyre with the exception of Michelin’s own CerexBib, which is produced using the company’s ‘Ultraflex’ technology. This increased tyre load capacity has become a key requisite in the development of new, higher-performance harvesters, comments Michelin.
