Yokohama confirms interest in Goodyear OTR
The RL-5K is Goodyear’s newest radial OTR tyre in the 45/65R45 size and is constructed to withstand the air pressure necessary to deliver an increased three-star load capacity, which translates to a 16% increase in load carrying capacity versus its predecessor.
Following reports that Yokohama is in “advanced talks” with Goodyear regarding the purchase of Goodyear’s OTR tyre business, Yokohama officials have released an official statement confirming that the Japanese company is interested in Goodyear OTR.
The Yokohama statement, which was published on 10 July 2024 is not explicit about the extent of the talks, but does confirm that “that this matter is under consideration”. Such a statement is a tacit confirmation of the general tenor of the earlier media reports. However, it also tempers against overenthusiasm, stating “no facts have been determined at this time”.
The full Yokohama statement reads:
“Today [10 July 2024], Bloomberg reported on talks regarding the acquisition of Goodyear’s off-road business by us, but this was not announced by us.
“While it is true that this matter is under consideration, no facts have been determined at this time. Should any facts arise that should be disclosed in the future, we will promptly inform you.”
