Wheel maker BBS Autotechnik insolvent – again

A feeling of déjà vu is forgivable when hearing the news that wheel manufacturer BBS is insolvent, as this is the fifth time the company has found itself in this position. On Friday 26 July, the German firm filed for insolvency with the local court (Amtsgericht) in Rottweil, Baden-Württemberg. The court has appointed Freiburg-based lawyer Dr Dirk Pehl as insolvency administrator.
Turkish investor İş Holding (ISH) had only recently brought the insolvent Superior Industries factory in Werdohl, Germany into the BBS fold and appointed wheel specialist Simone Maier-Paselk as global head of sales and marketing. According to those familiar with the situation, the workforce at BBS was surprised at Friday’s insolvency application. Employees received their wages in May and June, albeit with a delay.
The question for many is: What do ISH’s Ilkem Sahin and Karani Gülec, who took over management of BBS Automotive GmbH on 1 December 2023 and later the former Superior Industries Werdohl plant, now plan to do with the factories they’ve acquired in Germany?
